Justices have pointed abortion discourse
WASHINGTON - The graphic details of a disputed abortion procedure filled the Supreme Court on Wednesday as justices voiced concern with a federal ban on that operation.
--------------------
"Wouldn't the fetus ... suffer a demise in seconds anyway?" Justice
John Paul Stevens asked, focusing on the law's ban on how, rather than whether an abortion may be performed.

Solicitor General Paul Clement replied: "Well it may be seconds, it may be hours."

Of course, the one person whose rights are simply not being considered by these august men is the WOMAN.

Paul Clement is the most heartless bastard I've heard in a long time.

1. OK, there is some good news in that report, and these are the four great words

Justice John Paul Stevens asked...

There WAS a rumor floating about that he was on his deathbed, remember? Some rightwing rag reproduced a post from this very website from someone claiming that they "knew" his family and he was gravely ill.

Well, looks as though the guy, if he were ever ill, has recovered.

Long, long, happy, happy, joyous, working life, Justice Stevens!!!

2. I heard Hannity talking about this...
Granted, it was HANNITY, but he had some Fox pundit talking about the Supreme Court abortion case.

She said that last time the SC ruled on abortion it was a 5-4 ruling on the pro-choice side, with SDOConner being
the swing vote. She mentioned that they might expect a 5-4 ruling this time, in favor of pro-life.

I thought that was interesting.

I dunno. I think some of the Fundies/conservatives just might be a bit surprised with Alito and Roberts come down
on this one. Abortion has been legal for a long time and stare decisis might rule the day.

3. No Way Alito
or at least, I would be very surprised. He is going on that court with an agenda to overturn Roe vs. Wade. Now, Roberts seems like he will listen to the case and make a ruling based on legal merits. In other words (and I may be off base again) I think Roberts will interpret the law based on precedent and not practice judicial activism.
