Brownback Stands Firm Against Abortion

By JIM DAVENPORT

TAYLORS, S.C. (AP) - Sen. Sam Brownback, campaigning for president Saturday before the National Catholic Men's Conference, questioned whether rape victims should get abortions.

"Rape is terrible. Rape is awful. Is it made any better by killing an innocent child? Does it solve the problem for the woman that's been raped?" the Kansas Republican asked at the St. Joseph's Covenant Keepers gathering.

"We need to protect innocent life. Period," Brownback said, bringing the crowd of about 500 to its feet.

Brownback also talked about keeping marriage between a man and a woman, saying nations that have allowed same-sex marriages were engaging in bad social experiments, with bad results.

He also encouraged married couples to stay together, saying studies have shown that if couples weather hard times for five years, their marriages tend to last. After five years, "people are happier than those who have had a divorce," Brownback said.

It was not clear what research he was citing.

2. 13 year old rape victim
I knew a girl in school who was raped in the hallway of her apartment building coming home from school. If she were Brownback's daughter, would he make her have the rapist's baby?

My friend had to go through counseling for YEARS before she could trust men again. She sat home all through HS and didnt' date and never went out. Imagine if she were forced to go through a pregnancy?????

3. The one person not present in Brownback's view of the subject
is the woman/little girl in whose body that fetus has intruded unwanted. She has no right to her wishes, no right to an opinion, no right to protect her health, no right to defend her life.

Brownback and men like him view women as animated flowerpots and devices that make sure their clothing is clean and dinner is on the table. They have absolutely no clue that there are real live human beings doing these things.

I remember the heady days in the 60s when we all hoped we could bring men along with us on our journey to liberation, when we thought men like Browback would be laughed out of existence by their brothers.

Oh well.

5. Does abortion solve the problem? Why, yes, yes it does solve the problem.

"Does it solve the problem for the woman that's been raped?"

If the problem is that she is pregnant as a result of the rape, yes, having an abortion does solve that aspect of the problem.

What a fu---- a--hole.

6. Does giving birth solve the problem?
Sometimes I have a hard time believing what people say. This line is incredibly stupid to me. No, nothing takes away the rape, but yes, and abortion will take away the forced impregnation.

7. If the woman/little girl
is taken to the hospital and given the Morning After Pill right after the rape, there should be no need for an abortion. Even back in the 1960s when my friend was raped, this knowledge and these drugs WERE available.

But of course to the Brownbacks of the world, they want to prevent doctors and hospitals from administering these drugs. The Morning After Pill, and plain old regular BC Pills, ARE abortion to these people.

8. And it would at least give the woman a sense that she had SOME control over her situation
Because, after all, she could also choose to carry the pregnancy to term for the same reason, but in no case should her decision be questioned by the likes of him.

10. Brownback,
and any other idiot, male or female, that espouses this belief, is pro-rapist.
Giving the rapist the right to reproduce over the woman's right to abort...:puke:
