Missouri girl accused of plotting to kill classmates
Better fire all these teachers too! They should have tried to warn someone about this. And if they spent their time monitoring their students' Facebook pages, they would have known!!

PUXICO, Mo. | A southeast Missouri teenager has been arrested and is undergoing a mental evaluation after allegedly threatening to kill 29 fellow students at Puxico High School.

Authorities told the Dexter Daily Statesman that the girl planned to kill her classmates on her birthday in March. She was arrested Feb. 11.

The girl is a juvenile and her name and age have not been released.

Authorities say the girl's plan called for her to persuade other students to activate a fire alarm. She would be on the roof and shoot students as they exited the building.

The parent of another student tipped school administrators about the plot. Authorities say the girl posted a photo of herself holding a high-powered rifle on a Facebook page, and had solicited help from other students for her plan.

1. It's up to the parents to monitor Facebook, not the teachers.

2. Another example of great parents.
She was not raised by wolves in the forest. Someone has to take responsibility for her lack of upbringing.

7. I know people think teachers stand "in loco parentis" but geez-- NOW they are supposed to monitor
facebook, twitter, etc? I hope a payraise comes with this added responsibility.

14. after all, this nation holds teachers in such high esteem--SURELY they are to be paid what they are
worth, yes? (and NO, I haven't had THAT much to drink tonight, although I should.)

8. You just watch. The parents will be suing the district.
Mark my words. There will be an attorney who will take their case KNOWING the insurance company will pay out.

Yours truly, on the other hand, HAS a real case, but will be extremely limited in collecting damages from the school district.

9. Unrec'd for stupid remark of teacher monitoring students' Facebooks.
Facebook can be private so even if a teacher wanted to, he/she wouldn't be able to monitor it. It isn't a teacher's job to monitor Facebood, it's a parents' job.

12. Since you are not the OP, I guess you can't be sure it is sarcasm,
I've seen a lot of folks go after teachers and try to hold them responsible for a lot of crap parents should be doing, so without the emoticon or some indication to the contrary, I'll be taking the OP at her/his typed message.
