Ike Skelton is the Armed Services chairman....where any legislation repealing DADT needs to get passed.

So who is Ike Skelton? He's just your average reactionary "Democrat" who voted FOR the Federal Marriage Amendment and AGAINST ENDA.

The Armed Services Committee is also home to four of the most homophobic, traitorous "Democrats" in the House, Gene Taylor, Mike McIntyre, Dan Boren, and Jim Marshall.

So I think it's safe to say we can forget about any repeal of DADT for a while....especially since the reactionary Taylor and conservative Democrats Solomon Ortiz or John Spratt are the people next in line to chair the committee....

:(

1. Truman desegregated the armed forces with an executive order
DADT could be repealed the same way....Though I wouldn't hold my breath.

7. There was talk during Clinton's mess with this about an executive order...
...but Congress would have passed a law overriding it, so he didn't do that so that no gays wouldn't be an actual law. DADT was a compromise to keep them from passing such a law...it sucks, but overturning a compromise is eventually going to be easier than overturning a law congress might have passed.

5. Gives Obama some good political cover for not doing it
He doesn't have to "stick his neck out" because he can justify it by having it blocked in committee

8. Everyone should boycott it.
It's an organization that works to undermine human rights globally. In an idealistic way, it doesn't need to be that. But in the real world, that's what it is.

Unfortunately, gays - like other recruits - are also victims of economic stress and feel like they don't have a lot of other choices so I can't fault them for doing what they feel they need to do to make ends meet.
