How many of you LBGT DU'ers & Allies are on Facebook?

The reason i ask, is that i want to make an lgbt du group and have ALL of you join. Even the few of you who have me on ignore here are welcome to join the group. The group will not be to mobilize forces against posters on DU because quite frankly, i dont care enough about our resident homophobes.

The group will be so that we can advise each other on how to become activists. not keyboard activists but real activists.

I do some amount of real activism but i have decided i need to do more. People listen to me when i talk, and i need to take advantage of this. However i am not sure how to start on this, and i am sure there are others here who would like to become more involved in our problems.

So who would like to join this group and keep it active. It doesnt have to be on facebook. Other venues are perfectly ok with me too.

I just want us all to achieve our activist potentials. Let's start a discussion on this. Homophobic politicians and people will always exist, we just need to focus are anger and OUR MONEY and get our right. Preferably NOW.

I'm not on Facebook. I'm on Myspace, but I wanted the ones who are on Facebook (most people are nowadays) to see this. :)

and it lets you organize your friends and contacts into groups (sort of).

It's much better than MySpace for really talking and hashing things out. It's much less about popularity and appearance, and more about being connected. :)

My activist days are mostly behind me. There isn't much I can still do from a wheel chair with a stutter and hands that don't work, except be a keyboard warrior. But I'll definitely join and do what I can.

but I'm leery of FaceBook and refuse to use it. They're awfully fast-and-loose with personal information. I'm not sure whom to trust, but I'm open to suggestions. I've been toting signs and marching and occasionally on the six o'clock news (much to the chagrin of my parents) since I was 21, thirty years ago. I love technology and generally embrace it (being a softwar developer, yeah, stands to reason).

I have a standalone server, a private IP address, and programming skills. The server sits here at work. There's plenty of room on it. I'm sure I'm far from the only web-savvy one on this particular forum. That's "a" possibility, if there are more folks like me who are uncomfortable with mainstream/big-brotherized social networking systems. I'm not looking for work (I've got a plate-full), but I'd be willing to donate space if there are folks who have time to maintain our own system. There are plenty of off-the-shelf solutions.

Just thinkin' out loud here. As I said, I'm open to suggestions and willing to follow democratic concensus.

My concern with Facebook is that it is not anonymous. I can say wha I really think under a psuedonym without worrying about getting fired or having my car trashed.
