My roommate's cat is obsessed with gay pop-culture....
It's the most bizarre thing- The cat is a "roamer" and is rarely in the same place for very long (unless he's sleeping). But no matter what, we can channel-surf and land on, say, a broadcast of "Priscilla- QOTD" and Tiger comes from out of nowhere and plants himself RIGHT in front of the TV and watches. Change it to something else (an action movie, perhaps, or the news), and he wanders off. Then pop "Mamma Mia" into the DVD player, and he's right back front and center. The one possible anomaly is the movie "Footlose" (which was on TV incessantly a couple of weeks ago). I can't really classify that one into gay pop-culture without making some stretches, but it's one that he invariably came out of hiding to watch.

I guess we've made some kind of impression on him....

1. Perhaps he likes ABBA?

Or cheesy pop music in the case of 'Footloose'? Either way, that's adorable.

BTW, my dog loves transvestites. They are the only 'strangers' she will allow to pet her or even get near her.

3. Well, there are some non-musical shows that turn his head, too....
Sordid Lives got his attention, as does Martha Stewart's TV show (which is a gross stereotype of gay men, of course) but again- he's sitting at attention on the ottoman.

I'm going to have to take some pics and video of this phenomenon.

4. He was literally on his way to the pound when my roommate rescued him....
He needed another cat like he needed a hole in his head (he already had 2), but something stirred him and he HAD to adopt him. He's now of the impression that they're kindred spirits!

I know the feeling; I adopted my latest, Riff Raff, off the streets because he just wasn't cutting it as a feral - so one internet-ordered feral trap and $335 vet bill later I have me one fine, er, half pet (he's retained a bit of the wild in him) :D

8. Well, much more my roommate than me.....
I'm not a pet person, because my life just doesn't allow for it. Between work and other committments, I'm not home enough for me to care for them properly so I can't in good conscience take on the responsibility. :(

5. My cat is too!!
He never paid attention to the TV until the Wizard of Oz was on. I think he's a Friend of Dorothy.

6. Ooooooh!!! That's one I haven't tested yet!
Gotta drag that one out of the vault and see how he reacts!

I suppose it's possibly a situation that he notes what makes US stop and watch, but then again- my roommate is a TV junkie. He watches absolutely everything. So it's strange how it's JUST certain things that draw him in.

:hi:

10. That's the going theory we came up with....
In fact, at one point during Bacon's solo dance in the warehouse/grain elevator/or whatever it was, Tiger started pawing at the screen (we moved the ottoman up close, for his convenience).

12. So the cat has "teh gay"......
Shall I contact Focus on the Family and seek advice for how to un-gay a cat? Though it might be kind of funny, I'm scared that I might find out that they actually DO have resources for ex-gay pets...

:scared:

14. Not without a fight, at least.....
He shredded my hand when I tried to take back a guitar pick he stole from me. I can only imagine what he'd do to someone trying to take Kevin Bacon away from him.... It wouldn't be pretty.

16. I love PQOTD! Your cat has great taste.
Of course they all do.

I had quite a crush on Terance Stamp's character.

Footlose = 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon.

18. Footloose is TOTALLY gay pop culture!
Outsider kid immersed in fundie religious culture? Kid challenges ban on behaviour, leading to ultimate showdown between kid and "god" figure?

You can't GET more gay pop culture.

And Kevin Bacon?? He wan't on Will and Grace for nothing.
