I reserved my Leviticus 2010 Referendum at the Madison Farmers Market today!
I have a web site that will chronicle and assist those that want to have the Leviticus 2010 Referendum as part of the 2010 menu for their state's elections.

http://leviticus2010.com/

It is based on the Leviticus 20:10 passage:

And the man that committeth adultery with another man’s wife even he that committeth adultery with his neighbour’s wife the adulterer and the adulteress shall surely be put to death.

– Leviticus 20:10

Operationally, the point is to strike back at the GOP and their base, the Religious Reich, that is determined on continuing homophobia and theocratic tendencies, with their own medicine.

Essentially, the only people truly protected from the Leviticus 2010 Referendum are those that can't get married or have their relationships (which are much like marriage) recognized.

Hopefully, Wisconsin will have the referendum in 2010. It's a matter of getting enough signatures. And other states could also follow with the same tactic... it's a learning process for me, but I look forward to the dialogue from people on the street.

8. As for the market...
It starts April 23-November 3.

There is a winter version, but it's not the 20,000 people you get going by during the Warm Times.

4. Isn't it amazing how the religious conservatives can parse sin?
Who's going to stone their child for cursing their father?

Who's going to consent to stoning for adultery?

On and on - there are a hundred more where that came from. But those can all be forgiven. Being GAY, however, is the unpardonable sin. Well, unless you want to live as a eunuch. Which is treated with derision EVEN IN THE BIBLE.

The whole thing sucks. I will NEVER be part of organized religion again. NEVER EVER.

6. trouble is
that the targets you are aiming at are so very irony impaired. and many of them will insist that they believe in that. maybe the one about selling your children would bypass the irony deficiency a little better.

11. But wouldn't that affect so many Repubs personally?
I mean, how many of them are living out their repressed side?

They wouldn't vote for their own death sentence.. ; )

Shakespeare had it dead on: the people who protest too much are the ones you need to worry about. Good money says that most of the loudest fundies are doing SOMETHING that they consider "sinful," whether the rest of the world agrees or not. The closet-cases are just the most visible example: there's a constant drumbeat of fundies who are caught cheating on their wives, stealing from their churches, etcetera...

I read one case where a preacher in this one town would wander the sidewalks, outside the high school particularly, condemning the evils of homosexuality and pedophilia. You guessed it: he was busted soliciting sex from a 14 year old boy.

I once talked to a guy who had formerly worked in hotel security: he told me that the hotel security people always track prostitutes in the building for safety reasons, and that the biggest traffic always happened when religious right conferences were in town.

It's not that all religious people are hypocrites by nature--the high-profile chest-beating of the religious right, and their hellfire and damnation rhetoric, attracts the people who secretly repress the thing they think they need to atone for.

13. While it sounds good...
it will never work. Supposedly, the New Testament made the
Laws of Moses obsolete which the Leviticus passages are taken
from. Even if we attempt to "fight fire with fire,"
the RR will derail the effort by justifying their heinous
agenda with more propaganda. I mean seriously, how can you
reason with someone who ACTUALLY believes that a man lived
inside a whale or that one man summoned two of every animal
and set out to sea for 40 days and nights? I have heard
arguments recently where even dinasaurs are being justified as
being in the Bible by the mention of very large animals. Will
be interesting though to see what happens if the effort is put
into motion.
