Two business organizations on Monday urged embattled Spokane Mayor Jim West to step down, issuing a statement saying that the city’s leadership has been harmed by accusations against him.

An hour after the Spokane Regional Chamber of Commerce and Spokane Regional Convention and Visitors Bureau called for West’s resignation, the mayor issued his own statement, saying he was sorry for having caused embarrassment to Spokane residents but insisted he would not step down.

“When all investigations are concluded, I expect to be exonerated,” West said in front of his City Hall office. “The people elected me to serve as their mayor, and I intend to serve out the remainder of my term.”
