Take action to stop anti-LGBT broadcast

This Saturday – unless we act right now – a Michigan TV station will air a one-hour anti-LGBT propaganda piece designed to “reveal the truth about the radical homosexual agenda.”

The ultra-right wing American Family Association (AFA) says it produced the 60-minute program to air nation-wide.

We need thousands of people to speak out IMMEDIATELY against this paid campaign of lies before the program airs on WOOD-TV, the local NBC station in Grand Rapids, MI.

Tell WOOD-TV to reconsider its decision to air this hour of lies – and instead broadcast a fair debate.

Make no mistake: this is the opening salvo in a coming battle over pro-equality legislation.

I remember there was a rather clever riff on that Right Wing Newspeak phrase "homosexual agenda," that involved a full day of everything from time at the gym to dinner at a high-end restaurant....I'm not sure where taking over the world fit in there, but I think it was shoved between cocktails and a manicure, or something...

I guess it's "the gays" on the front lines for awhile. It sure looks to be shaking out that way, doesn't it? Those right wing fundamentalists just have to have an "enemy" and something that they have to "oppose" to feel alive.

Says something about them. They sure don't know how to live and let live, do they?

Station manager releases statement: "The Offer is now off the table."

WASHINGTON – The Human Rights Campaign, the nation's largest lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender civil rights organization, today issued a national action alert against the American Family Association's (AFA) one-hour television special called "Speechless: Silencing Christians," which is promoted to "reveal the truth about the radical homosexual agenda and its impact on the family, the nation and religious freedom." Within an hour of that action alert announcement, the Grand Rapids, MI station which had planned to air the deceptive programming rescinded that offer.

WOOD-TV General Manager Diane Kniowski posted the following announcement just before 4 p.m. saying it would not run the AFA paid 60-minute program on Saturday as planned:

"We made a gesture of the 2-3 p.m. Saturday time period. It's been 24 hours and we had no response," Kniowski said. "Our station is being bombarded with calls and messages, and we find ourselves in the middle of someone else's fight. Ours was a fair offer and we are removing ourselves from this matter."

The HRC alert urged members to contact the station and ask that they pull the scheduled program and instead air a fair discussion or debate on both the issues and pending legislation.

"I am so proud of our members who answered the lies and distortions of the AFA and stopped this campaign of hate and deception," said Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese. "Our community stood up and would not let those lies stand."<<<

QC posted a link to the AFA poll to DU it. By minute 5 I was yelling at my computer monitor. I'm glad this was pulled. It's very manipulative and dangerous.

It was a nice surprise to go to the link and find out that sending a protest letter wasn't necessary. :)

I often wonder whether all those protest letters do any good. It's really nice to see that at least this once they really did.
