Whitehouse.gov Reinserts Call to “Repeal” Don’t Ask Don’t Tell
http://www.propublica.org/article/whitehouse.gov-reinserts-call-to-repeal-dont-ask-dont-tell

May 2, Propublica.org
By: Eric Umansky

Yesterday afternoon, we noted our handy Changetracker tool had spotted some interesting changes on Whitehouse.gov. In particular, the call to “repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell” had been replaced with softer language saying, President Obama "supports changing Don't Ask Don't Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and our national security."

Well, last night the White House reinserted language saying President Obama supports the “repeal” of Don't Ask Don't Tell. The new phrasing: "He supports repealing Don't Ask Don't Tell in a sensible way that strengthens our armed forces and national security."

1. Clearly, it's important that we speak up and do not let the administration sweep our issues under
the rug and into the closet. Just like ACT-UP did with Bill Clinton. Obama is NOT going to take the lead on our issues. Period.

2. The Chairman of the Armed Services Committee is a homophobe
Ike Skelton, that is.

Other homophobic, right wing "Dems" on the committee:

Gene Taylor
Mike McIntyre
Jim Cooper
Jim Marshall
Dan Boren
Bobby Bright

+ all of the Republicans.

I don't see how it gets past the committee.....unless Obama bypasses congress.

8. He can't exactly bypass Congress.
The UCMJ needs to be changed, which requires an act of Congress. Theoretically, he could order the top DOJ lawyer to stop enforcing the rules against homosexuality, but two possible issues. One, I'm not sure that they HAVE a top DOJ lawyer yet. And two, I'm not sure what sort of legal footing they'd have for making that sort of decision.

12. It gets past the committee as follows:
President Obama calls the recalcitrant Democrats into his office and tells them, "Do this or else you don't get any party money or support for your re-election, and we will make sure that you don't get past your primary. That is all. Good day, gentlemen."
