Inclusiveness pays off for small business - from an email of both a
friend and another innkeeper:

Talking about niche marketing. While we're obviously not gay ourselves, I've always listed our inn as "gay friendly" on websites that target gay guests. In the past we've taken some heat over this, in the form of cancelled reservations and hate mail from homophobics and religious zealots. Even sometimes housekeepers who don't want to clean a room occupied by a gay couple. Every time one of these "nasty" encounters happens hubby has suggested we withdraw our advertisements from gay websites because it is hurting our business. And I have refused, even though the return on investment for us from many of these sites has been minimal at best.

But for me it's the principle of the thing. I won't be bullied by bigots.

Well I got my reward this week. I got a booking for a full inn buyout for a gay committment ceremony later this year. For a Saturday that would normally be pretty empty. They found us on Purple Roofs.

During that time, it could work out to as much as 20% of their monthly income. And she's in the heart of the reddest part of Ohio. I pulled out the personal info to protect them from freeping, but if anyone is interested in a wonderfully inclusive B&B in Amish country OH, PM me.
