Obama needs to be followed around by a crowd of protestors wherever he goes
until he realizes that we're not just something he can stand on when he needs to get elected.

My faith is disappearing, big time --

2. You could also annoy your local reps, which would be a lot easier.
Edited on Thu May-28-09 12:52 AM by JackBeck
I dare you to start a roll call for those that would commit to that action.

Not. Gonna. Happen.

DU is all about complaining without action.

Learn it. Live it. Love it.

11. It would be more productive, too: "Gonna follow you around until you agree to repeal DOMA and DADT"
Builds up votes in Congress for specific action by holding officials accountable to their local base

19. Excellent. You have a great opportunity on your hands.
You can pester them to become leaders within the party, and to become an advocate for marriage equality on a local, state and/or federal level.

San Diego's mayor is the Republican with a lesbian daughter, right?

22. Im going to pester all my elected officials including Obama
And I will continue to do so until everyone has equal rights.

Yes my mayor is GOP - hes a good guy actually - he is retiring from politics however.

My City Council memeber is onboard with everything Obama outlined plus marriage.
Barbara Boxer is onboard with everything Obama outlined plus marriage.
Susan Davis is onboard with everything Obama outlined plus marriage.

All of my state reps are onboard with everything Obama outlined plus marriage.

24. Only it isn't pestering, it's your right.
"or limit the right to petition the government for a redress of grievances." Don't diminish it by calling it "pestering". Petition the government as often as you like.

I have such admiration for her. Why the hell doesn't she support same-sex marriage? Ugh.

4. You're right. As soon as she breaks a promise.
She's already done more as SoS for gay rights than Obama has done as president.

5. You're right that she hasn't broken any promises and done much more than Obama
I was just saying, she's such an empathetic, perceptive, compassionate, and courageous person. I've never understood her opposition to it. I guess it stems from her husband signing DOMA and what not..

6. Obama supports same sex marriage
Edited on Thu May-28-09 12:57 AM by Juche
At least he did before he was president.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/01/13/obama-once-supported-same_n_157656.html

Obama's response in 1996 to a windy city times questionnaire on gay marriage.

"I favor legalizing same-sex marriages, and would fight efforts to prohibit such marriages."

I still support Obama, but I'm starting to realize how he basically conned us all. Obama has amazing social/emotional intelligence, and he knew what this nation needed desperately (change, competence, dignity, the ability to trust our leaders again) and he knew how to portray himself as those things in order to win approval, energy and donations.

However now that he has won the presidency, he has abandoned his core principles in order to shore up political capital.

16. +1. He is abandoning our civil rights, it's even more than just his principles.
His principles would be a private matter, but in his current position, it has become a very public matter.
It is proper to hold leaders accountable for their actions and inactions.

10. Yes. And I also want apologies from all of the Obama primary supporters who told
me he was better than Hillary on GLBT issues and would be a "fierce" champion.
After the apology, they should let Obama know he made them liars.

13. Why? did P.O. ever say he supported same sex marriages?
I seem to remember him specifically saying at one of the debates that he did not.
