President Obama, Just Follow Prime Minister Brown!
"As President Obama and his team struggle how to come to terms with the LGBT civil rights movement, maybe he should just look across the ocean at the amazing record of Great Britain Prime Minister Gordon Brown. The president would find a perfect role model in the Prime Minister on these issues - a man who has only been in office slightly longer than he has.

Over the next couple of months I will write more about the Prime Minister's extraordinary record on LGBT issues but just look at some of his actions in the last couple of months. Please, White House read carefully:"

-Appointed a huge number of openly LGBT citizens to his administration including folks at Cabinet level such as Lord Peter Mandelson who is not only Secretary of State for Business, Enterprise and Regulatory Reform but also is one of the Prime Minister's trusted confidantes.
-Proposition 8 is not an English problem but listen to this statement from the Prime Minister in Pink News: He roundly criticized Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage in California, as "unacceptable", adding that British LGBT campaigners had already shown how it is possible to "break new ground."
-The First Lady held a luncheon last October in the official 10 Downing Street Dining room on my last visit to England to create an exchange of ideas between the American movement for equality with the British LGBT community.
-Prime Minister and Mrs. Brown hosted the first ever LGBT reception at 10 Downing Street to celebrate the work of the LGBT community. Open community members, not only from the political community but also the arts, filled the halls of 10 Downing.
-At that reception, the Prime Minister talked of his incredible record in such a short time saying, "We have legislated on inheritance tax, we have legislated on homophobia in schools and we will keep taking legislative measures to protect you!"
-As a supporter of England's marriage equality laws, he simply says, "You cannot legislate love."
-On Holocaust Memorial Day in Great Britain, the Prime Minister honored the LGBT victims of the Holocaust!
-The Prime Minister was in the forefront of not sending back to Iran a young LGBT man who faced certain death if not granted refuge in Great Britain.

"Rule, Britannia!"

UK lawmakers plot to topple struggling PM Brown

By DAVID STRINGER – 1 day ago

LONDON (AP) — Rebel government lawmakers tried to win support Thursday for an attempt to oust British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who was struggling to retain power after a scandal over legislators' expenses prompted voter outrage and the chaotic resignation of senior ministers.

As Brown's Labour Party braced for catastrophic results from elections for European and town hall assemblies, rank-and-file legislators were being canvassed to offer backing to a direct call on Brown to quit — the most serious challenge to his authority since he replaced Tony Blair in June 2007, following a similar revolt in Labour's ranks.

Brown's chief whip Nick Brown — in charge of party discipline — said on Thursday that dissidents were actively working on a plan to topple the leader. He accused veterans loyal to Blair and a small group of mavericks of leading the plot.

A draft text of an e-mail by rebel legislators that has been leaked to British media tells Brown: "you can best serve the Labour Party and the country by stepping down."

2. Causation vs. Correlation
The causation for Brown's unpopularity is the economic struggle, not because he's too nice to gay people.

Granted, it's not like anyone would ever consider you unpopular on those grounds. We know from your posting here just how you feel about gay people.

3. Agreed...
The anti-Blair factions are more left-wing and more socially liberal than the dumbfuck neo-liberal factions. Blair appointed some Opus Dei broad to a gay rights commission...
