Sort Of Thinking Out Loud, And Wondered About The Ideas Of Other GLBTQ Members....
As a group (GLBTQ), we tend to often say to other GLBTQ DU members that we want to be "left to it"....

I assume that means we as a group want to be able to speak of GLBTQ issues, or situations that effect the GLBTQ community with other GLBTQ DU members without the infringement, or harassment (whether real or perceived) that seems to come along with the territory.....

Now..... if one does a bit of self reflection...... Is that what "you" might really want? Meaning, even though one may preach.... "Leave Us Alone In Peace"..... is there a secret desire to fight with someone in the cyber world (to release some frustration), as one couldn't tell the boss what a dickhead he is.... or one might not communicate well with their respected Life Partner, or (you name your own situation here).........

I ask this as I feel that I really do want just to be left in Peace (contrary to what those whom I have had negative contact with might espouse)...... but find myself in the thick of it when I feel the GLBTQ community has been hosed by some prick......

But yet, if I really want the peace that I say I do...... why do I return for "yet another helping of "crap cakes"? Which brings me to the big question... if the GLBTQ community really had a "home of their own"..... does anyone think it really would be utilized... or would it simply die on the vine as it might be way too quiet (like a visit with the Grandparents)..... rather than living in the big city (fighting with the haters).......

Hopefully, I am making sense....... and I just wondered what everyone else might think......

2. Yes, that is what I want, I want this:
Mission statement: "The purpose of the GLBT Group is to have a
place on DU to discuss issues which directly affect the GLBT
community. Our goal is to reach out beyond the walls of DU and
affect the GLBT community with the message of what we can do
to make the United States and the World a better and safer
place for people of all backgrounds. DUers of all sexual
orientations and gender identities are welcome to participate,
although all posters are expected to be supportive of marriage
equality and equal civil rights for all Americans."

7. I like it as well. Maybe it would be good to articulate the meaning of "civil rights" though
since it is so often used as a loophole against us by the ignorant: i.e. "marriage isn't really a civil right, it's a religious experience," "no man has a "civil right" to wear a dress at work (re: trans-inclusive ENDA)" and so on and so on. Maybe we should articulate all the terms and update them regularly:

Trans-inclusive ENDA
Legal Recognition of Same-Sex Relationships
Full inclusion of LGBT persons in all existing Hate Crime Statutes, Federal and Local, etc...

At that point, the group would become a point of activism and an ongoing discussion on how to effect change as opposed to a "safe space" within a site committed to "a diversity of opinions" on issues involving our health and sanity.
