Edited on Wed Jun-17-09 02:15 PM by Pacifist Patriot
As some of you may know, I am a member of the clergy who performs independent weddings aside from my part-time congregational duties. Most of the couples who come to me are either lapsed from their faith, inter-faith or secular. Although my state does not provide for either marriage or civil unions for same gender couples, I have traveled to perform these ceremonies where they are legal and also perform non-state-sanctioned commitment ceremonies in my own community.

The last three heterosexual couples who booked their weddings with me all told me it was specifically because they saw the picture of LostinVA and Haruka on my website. They did not want to be married by someone who would turn away a gay couple.

Likewise, I have recently had two heterosexual couples register for my marriage education class in the fall because they saw the description that specifically stated the class was open to couples of all sexual orientations. Not too shabby for a supposedly conservative/Republican/fundy Christian county.

I honestly think I have a more rewarding ministry and a higher class of clientele because of my belief that a loving couple is a loving couple is a loving couple.

Marriage Equality in My Lifetime!

2. I hope they don't mind, but I edited in the picture that seems to grab people's attention.
A little disappointed though. I've done a number of lesbian ceremonies, but none for gay men. Not sure why, but I'm trying not to take it personally.

She was outside smoking a cigarette going, "who was the guy in the kilt? He was so sexy. His hair was so sexy." And, she was fully aware he was in HS.

33. Must be a "nerves" thing. I remember drinking ungodly amounts of champagne...
at my own wedding and not feeling so much as a twinge of a buzz. I recall thinking it highly unfair actually. By all rights I should have been more hammered than most of my guests but it was most definitely the other way around.

17. It was a beautiful day.
A wee bit windy, but the people were just spectacular. Of all the weddings I've performed, this one is definitely one of my all-time favorites. And not just because I was hundreds of miles away from my rambunctious kids. :)

I have a wedding booked for next June that makes me a bit sad though. These two women do not have the family love and support so in evidence for Lost and Haruka.

27. *sigh*
I wish I had more. I have several in my keepsake album. In fact, I have a picture of me with every couple I've ever married, save for two. Simply because they were private elopements with no one around to take our picture. I obtain permission from a couple before I publish their photos on-line. L & H are the only lesbian couple to grant me such permission.

49. This was the first and only time I have seen Haruka nervous like this
I'm always that way before big things (job interviews, etc.), so I get freaked out, but then when it starts, I'm fine. She's not used to it, so she freaked out the whole ceremony.
