1. I blame myself. Union workers have gotten so skinny, there's too much room under this bus.
:hi:

so it's hard to tell.

that really pisses off the true believers.

i find it most amusing that the same people who were our heroes during the bush era are now clearly pumas or freepers

are now brilliant chess.

13. its funny i think they think deriding us will get us on board
whereas i think simply stating, that while i approve on obama's actions with XYZ, i dont approve of his slowness/lack of impetus on other issues would have done wonders to build coalitions. ahh well.

15. I don't think it has anything to do with building coalitions, or with politics at all.
The true believers are not political activists: they are fans. Just as some people follow the Dallas Cowboys or Britney Spears, they follow Barack Obama.

It's hard to believe that DU was once a place where some of the smartest progressive political minds could be found. In the early days you could get a real education here, but now it's all about bathing beauty pinups of politicians.

9. yes, but i am amazed that he has more empathy than the average duers
whose job doesnt involve appeasing several diff constituencies.

empathy is not action. however empathy is better than derisions (ex: who didnt get their pony etc)

14. Joe's current hot air did include a few notes to DU
He thanked us for our criticism. For our vocal criticism.
The DU faith states that criticism is bad, while praise is good. This is in fact the opposite of what is true. Note that many people pay large fees to hear the criticism of masters in their fields, yet no one ever pays a dime to hear a good review or be told they are fine as they are. That says it all.
It is also a good thing Joe likes criticism, because until they act that's all they will be hearing, like it or not.

21. It's Truly a Mystery To Me As Well.
However - and luckily - the unempathetic dickwads here are not in a genuine position to continuously withhold our rights. They may be (and are) annoying, but my real anger is reserved for those who are deliberately withholding my rights from me.

22. At the moment, I'd be happier if they quit withholding
my DIGNITY. Rights would follow. I'm goddam tired of being treated like something subhuman or some kind of boogeyman out to eat wackogelical children. I'm really peeved at Mr Strong Advocate folding at every possible opportunity, then allowing that heinous brief to go through without even so much as a "Oh, jeez, maybe we should rethink that", and THEN have the fucking audacity to try to mend that politically by tossing a dry bone of (1) a memo (not an executive order which would have real staying power and real meaning) allowing (2) some benefits to (3) government employees (what? a whopping .00003% of the gay population? gee thanks!) but (4) not so much that would interfere with DOMA (about which neither he nor Congress have said or done fuckall).

Color me underwhelmed.

It was those last two acts that broke this camel's back. I can have quite a bit of patience, but do not insult me and mine, then turn around and attempt to insult our intelligence by throwing a dry bone and telling us it's filet mignon.

I might piss down his leg and tell him it's raining, see how he likes that dignity.

Yes, dammit, I want might rights, but first, and right now, I want my dignity.

26. Believe it or not, it IS greatly appreciated
Dignity is the first and finest thing we can offer one another, respect for one another's suchness. To my way of thinking, that's not so much to ask. I know this administration has an enormous amount on its place, but gollydamn, after all the soaring rhetoric of the campaign, one would think they could have applauded one advancement in marriage rights in the states that have done so this year, or condemned violence against us even once, or made any progress on DADT (we've since found out that ZERO has happened), or something-ANYthing.

It would have been better to have left well enough alone after that DOJ-brief slap in the face than the hasty, halfass move they made afterward. Ill-thought-out, not even half of what they could have done... it just made them look shabby, like, "Here's some hand-me-down. Yes, it's worn out and doesn't fit. It doesn't even cover most of what it's supposed to. But shut up and thank G'd you got that much, you ungrateful wretches."

Thank you, sir, may I have another :sarcasm:

I hope their wallets begin to feel it. Mine sure as hell snapped shut, except for my state and DC reps. They, at least, are doing their jobs -- all of their jobs, including paying attention to me. My new senator, the one who managed to unseat Dole by dint of Dole's own big nasty mouth has already bluedogged herself out of my graces.

What's a body to do.

Keep on keepin' on.

First one foot. Then the next. Repeat.

Peace

25. I Agree With the Spirit, But I Don't Think We Get Dignity Without Rights.
Anything he could say at this point is just more empty promises. Until DOMA and DADT are repealed, or ENDA and the Matthew Shepard Act passed and signed into law, we have nothing.

Any one of those would make me less angry, but I won't be happy until I have full equality.

23. Wow. At least that is some acknowledgment that we are out here. If the President...
would just come out and say clearly - clearly! - that he knows our concerns have yet to be addressed and he is sorry for that; that he is working on things; and to please give him some more time, I think we all would feel so much better and that we would readily cut him some slack.
