Dear Pride At Work Friends and Supporters:
On June 30th, our fiscal year comes to a close. We rely on people like you who are willing to chip in $30, $50, or even $100 to make sure Pride At Work's mission—ensuring lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender workers have a voice at work—continues.
As we look back over the last six months, we have had a tremendous number of successes:
Our Rochester Chapter, with the assistance of staff, put together a Union Certification Program for unions in their area, with attendees learning how to turn their unions into affective advocates for LGBT equality. Since the training, two (I think it is three) attendees have even been elected leaders in their union locals.
The National AFL-CIO Executive Council, the federation's highest governing body, called for the immediate repeal of Proposition 8.
As a result of our work, John Sweeney, AFL-CIO President issued a specific statement supporting the inclusion of gender identity and expression in the Employment Non Discrimination Act (ENDA) introduced at the 110th Congress, as well as the 111th Congress.
Most recently, Richard Trumka, Secretary - Treasurer of the AFL- CIO, stated that the AFL-CIO supports marriage equality, a first for the federation!
If you wish to see the labor movement continue to be a progressive ally to the LGBT community, please make a gift to Pride At Work today!
https://co.clickandpledge.com/sp/d2/default.aspx?wid=19364As we look forward, the struggle for LGBT equality continues, and we need to make sure labor's voice is LOUD and CLEAR:
In Maine, we expect the recent legislative marriage equality victory to be brought to the ballot. Pride At Work and the labor movement need to be there to defuse the lies and distortions our opponents will use. Already, our opponents have hired the same consultants who ran the disgusting Proposition 8 campaign. The voice of labor needs to rise high above the lies...
Please help us beat back this campaign of disinformation so that our union sisters and brothers in Maine vote for justice and equality...
https://co.clickandpledge.com/sp/d2/default.aspx?wid=19364In Maryland and New York, we must continue to organize to demand a gender identity non-discrimination bill pass, finally giving transgender residents the protections so many of us take for granted...
Help us raise up the voices of transgender workers...
https://co.clickandpledge.com/sp/d2/default.aspx?wid=19364And on the federal stage, we must all stand together and work with our allies in Congress to finally, after nearly 20 years of waiting, pass an inclusive Employment Non-Discrimination Act (ENDA), outlawing sexual orientation and gender identity job discrimination in all 50 states.
Help us bring the views of the 60 international unions and union organizations who have endorsed ENDA to the table...
https://co.clickandpledge.com/sp/d2/default.aspx?wid=19364We have come a long way in the last year. Who would have believed a year ago that six states would have marriage equality! But we still have a long ways to go.
Until every lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender worker have full equality and freedom under the law, our Pride At Work will not be done.
Please continue in the struggle, or join us for the first time and make a gift to Pride At Work today. Thank you!
