Serial Killer Targeting Gays In Florida?

Gay men disappear in Tampa Bay, Fla.

Another Tampa Bay, Fla. area man has been reported as missing, in a series of mysterious disappearances of gay men. Charles Campbell, age 21, of Clearwater was last seen at the Suncoast Resort on the evening of Sunday, Nov. 7.

Dowling has filed missing persons reports with both Clearwater and St. Petersburg police departments. At this point it is unclear if any real investigation is underway and according to Campbell’s mother, Tampa Detectives working on the disappearances of other local gay men will not review the information because of the issue of jurisdiction.

Campbell's disappearance comes nearly a year after two other gay men disappeared. Michael Wacholtz and Jason Galehouse vanished December 20th. Wacholtz was found dead on January 6th. Another Clearwater man, Mark Allen Thompson, has been missing since November of 2001.

I knew it was only a matter of time before this type of serial killer surfaced. The Religious Reich keep spewing hatred, and we all know what Yoda says about that. "Fear leads to anger; anger leads to hate; hate leads to suffering..."

Say a prayer, light a candle, or just send out some positive vibes for this kid.

if in fact there is a serial killer at work in this case, is not at all unusual. Lots of serial killers target gay men.

Unfortunately, younger gay and bisexual men are often the targets of serial killers. Many of these killers are repressed in their own sexuality and express their sexuality through murder. This is really scary, but look at John Gacy and others. I hope this guy turns up safe.

I pray that he is alright and has not been a victim of some malicious crime. (Murder, Rape, Kidnap, Torture, or anything else that one can think of.)

I pray that he'll be found and brought to safety, and whoever is responsible is brought to justice. It's a scary thought that there might be a serial killer out there praying on gay men, but like others have said it isn't that unusual. These types of Serial Killers are often gay themselves and because of a life time of torment from society become warped -- even driven to the point of insanity.

In a certain way it follows the path that some victims of bullying take -- often becoming bullies themselves. Add into that mix some other things and it's almost easy to see how one can be driven to kill someone like themselves because they are so full of self-loathing and inner hatred which causes them to lose their grip on reality and warp their minds.

I hope this is not the work of a serial killer because if it is more innocent people are likely to suffer -- it is almost always the case in serial killer cases. It's even more likely to go on even longer if the person is part of the GLBT community. Which in and of itself is sad. If more people turn up missing then I hope the national media picks up the story. It'll get the ball rolling and put pressure on Police to find the person before there are more victims.

I have a friend who is planning on vacationing at sun coast and I am very concerned.

Have never considered it to be a dangerous place in ANY WAY at all. This person must have gone willingly with whoever may have abducted him.
