The bad kind of sticky

Anyone else noticing that the sticky threads are pretty pedestrian, but that the really eye-catching nasty ones are about LGBTers? And that they're allowed through?

If that doesn't wrap up the attitude around here in a nice tidy bow . . .

you can't even get all the stickies on one page, much less search them, much less be sure they haven't been disappeared, like some threads.

I was just trying to help out the OP in finding what they thought was.

There are sometimes so many other interpersonal battles that I'd be crazy to pretend to know what was going on with cboy or if a sticky about him was homophobic or just nonsense.

Using Firefox or Safari and a Control-F you can search pages for key words.

I had to open 16 different pages of stickies for each word search but I found the ones Prism mentioned.

Also, to the doubters, the stickies scroll... (duh) :eyes:

I think the one directed at cboy was not necessarily a gay bash. He annoyed a lot of people here with his posts, not because he is gay.

This is something you can do yourself.

Cboy tombstone (one of those mouthy gays, ya know) and that Silo bit were the two I was referencing.

Usually I might let it slide without comment, but mix in with that dying of AIDS thread and the post on how gays yearn for genocide from people who are still here, and well, getting a little tired of how stuff against LGBTers is allowed to slide again and again and again and again.

Yet so many of us are gone/banned for things that came nowhere close.

What, exactly, do we have to do to have even simple dignity protected against people who have spent years trolling LGBTers, mocking us to our face, and getting away with it and being allowed to continue that behavior in thread after thread after thread.

It's really tiresome.

It's a real shame that a fundraising tool is used to hate on others.

It is a mystery what principles guide specific decisions made by administrators.

I'm sympathetic to all who are affected, it is beyond tiresome, it is wrong on so many levels.

once a year for this reason too. I have to keep that star so I can participate in the groups I care about and search when I find out someone is missing. Seems that almost always ends up with finding a tombstone. I wish it was different.

I am so sad to find almost every time I come back to DU another good, kind, smart but angry (and rightfully so) LGBT DUer is gone. I will miss cboy very much as I miss the others. This place means less to me as I watch this happen over and over.

that you are still here! I was elsewhere when the big purges happened. Whatever the topic was, if I had seen it, I might have been purged too but I have been too discouraged here to say much anymore. I am still trying to find out how to get through to people but with no success. I simply do not understand how anyone could not understand!!! (much less say the things they do)

No trips to NY planned yet but we are still going to meet up when I get there right? Funny, as wonderful as NYC is I find that the most exciting thing is meeting up with you and TC. I had so much fun with him the last time. One day, hopefully soon.

It's a very tasteless sticky and the person who put it up there should be ashamed. I miss him too. I come here less and less. I miss the passion and fire of the LGBT DUers who were TS'd. When I came here in 2005 I had really no awareness of the issues when it came to gay rights, although as a straight liberal I was certainly for them. But the people here who highlighted the urgent need to support them did so in a way that really moved me. There are still a few around, but they get shouted down and I can't imagine seeing the sticky allowed about cboy makes anyone feel very safe here. :(

Thankfully I did not see it. I got a real kick out of cboy and found him to be fun and pleasant and will miss him.

I was always in the fight but have learned so much here. The one thing I can't seem to be able to breach is the lack of understanding and compassion. I expect that elsewhere but not here. It is so wrong. I can't imagine calling yourself a liberal (or compassionate or reasonable or even human) and saying the things I see here regarding GLBT issues.

Cause I've read through all the replies and either this is club info, others don't get to know(If that's the case don't put it on a public forum), or the links don't exist.

I finally found the thread and it was a total gem and I am so not surprised at who posted it. I wonder what would happen if I posted a similar thread about the reaction of black churches if Marion Barry died of a drug overdose or of AIDS. Somehow I don't think I would have to ask for it to be locked.

I don't get the silo one, but it is not putting down gays. The cboy stickie is obviously from someone who didn't like him, but there were lots of reasons for that.
