Well I guess students don't talk as much as I thought they did
I casually mentioned I was gay in two of my classes so far and several students apparently didn't know. I would have figured that tongues would have wagged so to speak. Go figure. Didn't really think I had come out again but evidently I did. It is one of the odd things about being gay I guess, have to come out repeatedly. We also had our first GSA meeting. Good showing of about 15 or so.

2. Maybe they just don't place much importance on it
Which would be good, IMHO.

3. That's a good sign
That means they didn't care enough about it to gossip. Because it just wasn't a huge deal.

That's progress.

5. They just might not care.
Or, maybe they don’t follow current event enough to know that they are expected to care.

Then again, perhaps all that Hip Hop music on MTV, those shoot-em up video games, and/or the constant re broadcasting of the same programs on the Disney channel has finally destroyed their short term memories.

7. We had gay teachers at my high school, 1974/5/6. One got teased, but he was a case.
The only teacher that people talked bad about for being gay was also a whack job. He danced on his desk. I didn't take his course, so I can't really tell you what would trigger his desk dancing.

Other gay teachers were, like most adults, simply irrelevant. We had one really hot teacher, but he taught some kind of top level math, so no one took his class.

8. would have loved your school
I teach math now so I took high level math. My calc teacher was good but decidedly not hot.

9. My son's a junior at CalPoly now.
When I mention GLBT rights and stuff he just sort of shrugs. When I mention prop 8, he just automatically thinks that the whole idea of restricting gay marriage is stupid. Even being apolitical, people being gay just isn't a big deal in his mind as far as I can tell, and I suspect that means that it isn't a big deal in the minds of most of his friends either.

I can only hope that it's a sign of progress.

10. I had a professor who was very open about her sexuality (LGBT)
and I think the idea was that she didn't want it to become something people speculated about, but she was also very outspoken and seemed very political, so it was probably related to her political stance.
