So is anyone going to the DC march?
I am considering doing so but haven't made up my mind yet. I have never been to a national march so it is tempting.

We had reservations on an apartment and plane tickets but we just found out our dog is very ill. We are on our way to Purdue on Wednesday to see if she can be operated on. After over $1000 in vet bills so far and the potential of another $2000+ for an operation, we had to cancel. At least we can us our deposit for 6 more months if we decide to go to D.C. in the near furure but we really wanted to be there.
We still intend to organize in our district.

12. Yes. It will be the first grassroots march not funded by corporate interests since 1993.
Fighting for ALL our issues, a central point for unity for LGBT people. I'm going and doing fundraisers so that other locals can go.

14. We've got 10 weeks left before debate is over and a vote is held for marriage equality NJ.
Edited on Mon Sep-07-09 11:30 PM by JackBeck
Next weekend we start our targeted canvassing, so I won't be able to make it to the rally in DC. We've got a large amount of work to do here back in NJ. Once again, I want those that live here to know that now is the time to stop wasting your energy elsewhere with bullshit websites mocking those that are active in the community. It is time to get out there and be involved in making sure marriage equality becomes a reality in NJ.

But I do hope that those who attend the DC march learn something new about grassroots organizing and feel inspired to bring those skills back to their local communities.

In the build-up to the gathering in DC, I also hope that those who are eager to attend are taking this particular call to action from Cleve Jones to heart:

Encourage and enlist our allies in the broader progressive movement to build the march. The labor movement, racial, ethnic and immigrant communities, progressive faith leaders, peace and social justice advocates and other supporters. LGBT people of all ages and races recognize the challenges facing our nation and our planet. We are eager to stand, as equals, with our fellow citizens in meeting these challenges.

28. Contact anyone you know in NJ
and encourage them to get them involved with Garden State Equality. Among the many different tactics we are using, we receive weekly emails with 3 target Senators and Assemblymembers who we call every day. It literally takes less than 5 minutes to call all three.

I've been volunteering with GSE every weekend since February and the next 5-8 weeks are crucial. Yesterday, we held an off-the-record marriage equality summit and there are many more events in the coming weeks, so if you know anyone in NJ that's serious about fighting for marriage equality, have them contact GSE so they can participate in these events and get on the Legislative callers list.

15. Well, maybe.
It was absolute until I found out my first rehearsal of the season is that Sunday. I signed my contract so....

I still hope to convince my conductor but it is my job. Damn, I was really totally looking forward to this. Even my husband was going to come with me this time.

18. My daughter and I are going to be in DC that weekend
for the wedding of two of her friends -- they had their official, legal wedding in Connecticut last weekend, but are having a big to-do at Union Station on the 10th. Should be fun. We might try to come to the rally on Sunday before we leave for the airport.

If anyone is organizing a DU meetup for Friday night, let me know.

22. Going to the D.C. March
My husband and I are driving to D.C. from Ohio. Our son, who just came out in late August, is taking the train from NYC, where he goes to college, to DC., and the three of us will march together. Our son just seems to be so stressed about coming out, and we are hoping that seeing thousands of people in support of his rights will energize him and cheer him up. We've all been to anti-war marches, but never a gay rights march.

People, esp. GLBT politicos , forget how isolated most people still are and how exhilarating and life-altering a nat'l march can be.

What a great post.... and welcome to DU, btw.

31. Wanted to, badly, but no money to go, stay, eat, etc.
We were excited about it, too, but reality is reality, and we're not up to walking 3,000 miles, and too smart to hitchhike.

Damn it.

35. for those far away it wasn't a lot of time to plan and save up
I am within day trip range and got a sweet deal on a bus ($38) round trip. Add in the fact it is via NC State so eye candy might be involved and it becomes even sweeter.
