Gay friendly Philadelphia -- any guidelines?

My partner and I are shopping for an apartment in Philadelphia so I am curious to know if there are neighborhoods which friendlier than others. What is a good neighborhood for 2 gay guys and their dog?

Any guidance is appreciated.

1. I think that most of the gentrified neighborhoods are OK

Rittenhouse square area has historically been the Gay neighborhood, but I'm not gay so don't consider me an expert.

If your interested in the suburbs, we're trying to make it friendly here in Collingswood, NJ. 12 minutes on the high speed line to center city with lots of parks for the dog.

2. I'll second Rittenhouse Square

Most gay "life" centers around 10th through 13th Streets, Spruce to Walnut. South Street is also gay friendly, but expensive. Old City is pretty tolerant, but might also be out of your price range.

...and from what he said, as well as a quick count of rainbow flag window stickers on homes, apartment, and business windows it seemed like a very gay friendly area.

4. The Gayborhood In Philadephia is Around 13th and Walnut

There is even a rainbow stripe on top of the street signs. Most of Philly's gay bars are located around this area. It extends for maybe a two block radius in all directions. If you're going to be living in center city, that's definitely the most friendly neighborhood for gays. However, as other have said, most of the center city neighborhoods should be fine.

5. Downtown?

There's an actual Gayborhood marked by rainbow flags, centered around 13th & Locust.

If you're looking for more green space and you don't mind driving downtown to the clubs, West Mt. Airy is also a very gay-friendly area. That's for more settled people, seems like.

So is the West Philly neighborhood close to University of PA.

And Lansdowne, a Victorian suburb very close to the city, is also a very gay-friendly town with an actual cultural life.

6. Just remember, don't spend your entire budget on winter housing. You'll need some for Rehoboth.

Or you could start really early being exceptionally nice to people who have houses at the beach.
