“I have never supported that type of lifestyle or the people who choose it,” candidate Drew Sweatte, 22, wrote in a May 7, 2005 letter to the editor of the Spokesman-Review, which covers the Spokane, Wash. area.
The letter, which Sweatte wrote when he was 18, supported then- Spokane Mayor Jim West, who was recalled from office that year amid a sex scandal that revealed he was gay. West opposed gay rights during his two decades as a Washington state politician, according to the Spokesman-Review.
“I acknowledge that he has admitted to leading a personal life that is very much against my values but his personal life is just that, personal,” Sweatte, a Spokane native, wrote in 2005, defending West after the scandal broke

3. But which one is true?
For example, while racist people may sometimes act like they're normal, normal people never act racist. It just doesn't happen. Why would they?

7. PS has always been fairly Republican, and while that has
changed, places like PS still keep vestiges of its bigoted past, such as its newspapers, and individual views change mroe quickly than those in the 4th estate.
