Perhaps this is petty and resentful...
But I think it's hurtful and insulting that our President has put more effort into campaigning for the 2016 Olympics than for our rights as citizens of this nation. I guess I'll leave it at that before I spout some very angry words.

9. What is all this petty nonsense?
If Chicago wants it, Chicago should have it if it can get it.

New York did NOT want it. We were delighted to lose out. Something to do with being too soon to paint a new target on our backs.

26. Word of advice
The next time you feel the urge to take umbrage at a thread or poster, at least take notice of what forum you're on. Then in future you can perhaps tell us all here when and how we should feel about our civil rights.

28. Yes, I will take your advice and check the forum.
Sorry for not noticing.
But my post had nothing to do with civil rights - it was about Obama working on the plane trip to Copenhagen - in response to someone criticizing the fact that I guessed he may be working on the plane.

(BTW I have always been for LBGT rights - had fought vocally against people who have shown bias over decades - have always thought it was natural and not a choice.)

40. No, he threw a cocktail party with the LBGT royalty, and mentioned us
in a few speeches, and got asked about us at a couple of interviews and read a letter or two from some Congress folks. And called us families in some proclamation.

So, if we give him the benefit of the doubt, he's only spent 14 hours more flying off fighting for the Olympics than he has on LGBT issues

34. You are 1,000% wrong.
He NEVER "endorsed No on 8," and and he NEVER "voiced a robocall for them asking people to oppose Prop 8."

The infamous robocall, from YES On 8, gave us this unforgettable little gem:

"Here's Barack Obama in his own words on the definition of marriage:"

"I believe that marriage uh, is the union between a man and a woman. Now for me as a Christian ... (cheers, applause) For me... for me as a Christian it's also a sacred union. Now God-- God's in-- in the mix."

"Proposition 8 defines marriage as the union between a man and a woman. Vote yes on 8. ..."

Listen for yourself -- directly from my answering machine the afternoon of November 5, 2008:

http://news.lavenderliberal.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/11/obama-prop-8.mp3

The closest he ever came to denouncing Prop H8 was in a letter to the Alice B. Toklas Democratic Club:

"...I oppose the divisive and discriminatory efforts to amend the California Constitution, and similar efforts to amend the U.S. Constitution or those of other states."

While ending the letter by "congratulat(ing) all of you who have shown your love for each other by getting married these last few weeks," he does not state his opposition to Prop H8 itself, but to the "the divisive and discriminatory efforts" of Yes On 8. In other words, it was the very least he could do. The very, very least.

Read the letter yourself:

http://news.lavenderliberal.com/2008/07/01/barack-obama-a-crumb-for-the-queers-and-blood-red-meat-for-the-fundies-or-is-it-already-time-for-another-i-told-you-so-post/

And then get your facts straight before attempting to make the rest of us look like ignorant fools.

35. I'm afraid you're either selectively remembering, or simply misinformed.
I've read the letter, and I also watched the TV interview where Obama very clearly endorsed No on 8. I've also listened to the robocalls opposing Prop 8 that were recorded by several people for use leading up to last election day: among them both Obama and Bill Clinton. Pointing to the letter to the ABTDC and the (illegal) robocall cobbled together by the pro-8 campaign doesn't invalidate the existence of the other events.

36. As one who followed every PH8 event, every day, for five months...
...I would be thoroughly amazed to see/hear this endorsemenent, or an No On 8 Obama robocall.

Your claim does not invalidate the existence of the Yes On 8 robocall, "illegally cobbled together" or not. Did he or did he not say it? He did.

Nor does your claim invalidate the existence of the Yes On 8 slate mailers that presented Obama's opposition to marriage equality, quite accurately, as did the Yes On 8 robocall.

Nor does anything Obama has ever said or done begin to compensate for the fact consistent opposition to marriage equality -- nor his consistent support for the fire-and-brimstone preachers who made -- and continue to make -- destroying my equality their singleminded goal. You want to talk T.D. Jakes, Kirbyjon Caldwell... Rick Warren? Let's do it.

Why can't you just admit that Obama is against marriage equality (and that he was for it before he was against it)? Why is this so difficult for you to accept? Why must you continue to play this game?

Rhetorical questions all.

17. he said Gay on election night! that was pretty big
but I guess it's sorta went down hill from there. I appreciate his comments against bigotry, but he always leaves it to the fact that Congress controls the laws. I know they would say, and I understand, that he can't do anything else, but I really would like him to do a public visit, as president, to a church that is primarily Gay, or visit kids in a Gay teen outreach or homeless group, (if he's done these I haven't heard them), or something that is so visibly supportive so people see the president being with Gay citizens.
