UK Daily Mail colummist Jan Moir gets called out for homophobic article
I don't know if any of you have ben on Twitter, but onver the last 24 hours the place has been going crazy after the following article was printed in the Daily Mail (our equivalent of Faux News)

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-1220756/A-strange-lonely-troubling-death--.html

A nasty innuendo riven piece of bile that somehow insinuates that Boyzone singer Stephen Gateley somehow died of being gay, rather then natural cuases as the coroner found.

The woman who wrote this (Jan Moir) has become one of the top trending topics on Twitter, advertisers have pulled their adverts from the article and the PCC has been inundated with complaints. Here's Charlie Brooker of the Guardian with his take on it.

Just thought you might be interested in all this.

1. That article
seems to have gained almost universal notoriety and condemnation but as they say there's really no such thing as bad publicity.

Broadly speaking The Mail is only of use for lining cat litter trays. It's not without reason that Private Eye refer to The Mail as The Daily Lie.

2. I just thought people in this forum might want some info about all this
After all, if they read the Guardian or go on Twitter they will have probably come across this story in some form.

Here's the UK forum thread for more info.

4. Unsuspecting "USA/American" DUers are always posting
articles from this rag despite the occasional reminders of it's shoddy content by our U.K DUers. thanks for posting this, btw as I am NOT on twitter.

5. That's something that annoys UK DUer's no end
As the Daily Mail is well known in the UK for being a rabidly right-wing propaganda rag. As such UK DUer's get riled by people posting Daily Mail articles just as US DUer's would get riled if people used Faux news as a source on here.

6. Meanwhile, we know that heterosexual women are not promiscuous, Prince Charles and Camilla waited
until after Diana was dead to commence the tamponic relationship, that arranged marriages NEVER lead to open marriages.

What a stupid woman this Moir is.

Look at this (I don't know if someone else posted it, but I just saw it myself):

"In what is clearly a heavily orchestrated internet campaign I think it is mischievous in the extreme to suggest that my article has homophobic and bigoted undertones."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/media/2009/oct/16/jan-moir-stephen-gately-response

So now her critics are guilty of extreme mischief.

And don't you just love how she dismisses the anger as a phony internet thing? Was her column which I read online just a phony internet thing, too? Is her apology for the column a phony internet thing, too?
