When I was young and in the closet...
I found an ad for a bookstore called Lambda Rising.

They opened up a world of possibilities for me. They taught me that there were stories of gay youths to be told. People who were just like me.

Because of those stories I began writing myself. Nothing I would ever show anyone, but it gave me comfort.

Today I read that Lambda Rising is closing. A bit of my history is going with it.

I want to thank the owner and everyone at Lambda Rising.

You made growing up a hell of a lot better for me.

And I will always be grateful.

1. Wow
I was already out when I came to DC n the mid 80's, but Lamda has been a central part of my experience here as well. Hearing of its closing is compounded by the closing of the Blade, (although it is now DCagenda.com). It will be missed.

2. I hear you.
I was very sad when A Brother's Touch closed here in Minneapolis.

Harvey ( the owner) was kind of surly in an East Coast way and that was one of the things I loved about the store. The guy made you feel like shopping in a queercentric store was the most normal everyday thing in the world.

We lost a treasure there, for sure, and we'll lose more - book shops are hard to make a living at.

Then we'll be left with Barnes and Noble - and when they don't want to carry GLBT titles, we'll be left with nothing.
