Tonight's Big Love is a brilliant exposition of the futility of praying away the gay
Edited on Sun Feb-14-10 10:00 PM by dsc
The scene where Dale breaks down first with his local Mormon leader and later with Bill is nothing short of heartbreaking. Given the youtube video that is currently part of our frontpage this is all the more timely. Thank you both Dustin Lance Black and Tom Hanks. I so didn't see the ending coming. Truely heartbreaking.

4. Bill made a power play there
But you know, no matter how hard I try to hate Bill, I just can't.

Agree about the show. It really is excellent.

7. Tonight I Hated Bill
He's been angering me more and more, but like you, I still couldn't hate him. Tonight's episode changed that. I had no doubt what the ending as going to be.

8. I can relate to Bill and his secret
and wanting to transcend it. But, in the final analysis nothing will be enough unless he does get to unburden himself of the secret. The parallels being drawn are both fascinating and kind of hypocritical for him.

10. Yes I am wondering if his secret will come out in this campaign
and what the writers will do with the storyline.

12. He does seem to be in a death spiral in regards to that secret
I can't see him lasting to much longer with the kind of opposition he has in his race.

13. My prediction
Anna. His opponent will find out she is pregnant with his baby. Probably Sissy Spacek will find out and tell.

But will his polygmay be exposed? Should be interesting.

5. Damn what an ending
Poor Albie.

How bizarre. I should hate him too but my heart just aches for him now.

6. for me it is Dale who I think of
I could have easily been him. In my teens and even into my early 20's I tried the pray away gay nonsense and wanted to badly to have a woman and a family. Thankfully, I came to terms, but what if I had found a woman who I could get to marry me and I could live with marrying, then what?

17. It was a brilliantly acted, heartwrenching episode
Bravo to HBO, Big Love and especially to the actor who played Dale. I watched the show with an increasing sense of foreboding and could feel the ending coming.

19. It was a great episode!
I did see it coming, though, and thought they set it up pretty well. I first thought this while he was talking with the church officials. They backed him into a corner. And the scene with Bill was the clincher. I could see that he felt he had no other choice. As soon as I saw Albie walking up to the door of the apartment while leaving a message for him on the phone, I knew he was going to open the door and find Dale dead. The show made a bold and powerful statement on this issue last night, and I applaud all concerned. But yes, it was heartbreaking. :(
