Head over to hockeykidmn.com and meet Mikey. He’s a 17 year old hockey player from suburban Minneapolis (Mary Richards’ old stomping ground). He describes his high school as “a pretty normal school in the burbs …. pretty big … mostly kids wit moms n dads n wit decent money. clicks …. normal school drama… i think its pretty normal. i mean this is a pretty liberal area i guess so its not like rednecky or nething.” Mikey’s also gay.

The young man is out to only two people: his younger brother Jake and best best friend Josh (who recently made his first ever comment on the blog). Don’t read Mikey’s words if you want tortured drama. There is some of that (he is in high school afterall), but it’s also irreverent, self aware, and strangely metaphysical (what to give up for Lent? Pizza? Pop-tarts? Mikey went with both). I found out about Mikey’s blog through Outsports, sent him a note asking him if he wouldn’t mind answering some questions. He graciously said yes and what follows below is our email conversation. A few caveats: In Mikey’s blog spelling is a combo of text speak and short hand. His responses here were edited for grammar and spelling. I tried to keep his voice and tone. If the occasional cuss word offends, best to move on.
