Gay seniors come out late, start second lifetime
MIAMI (AP) - On his 75th birthday, Bill Farthing decided to be reborn. In the six years since he'd buried his wife of 45 years, he'd felt as he did long before: Lonesome, different, outcast. He wondered if he was going crazy; he contemplated suicide.

Looking back, the clues leading to this day had been scattered throughout his life, but only made sense just now.

So Farthing dressed in the most basic of blue wool skirt suits he could find on the Internet, with a white blouse and low-heeled, open-toed white shoes, and went shopping. Arms loaded with skirts and blouses from the clearance rack, Farthing approached the checkout.

"Did you find everything you wanted, ma'am?" the cashier asked.

Farthing looked over his shoulder, then realized she was talking to him. He had pulled it off.

He had become a she.

1. Transgender is not gay
I wonder if the author really doesn't know this.

2. Or he may be a straight cross dresser. The author is an idiot. Cross dressinf and transgender
has nothing to do with being gay.

3. For someone who sees the world in black and white,
gray is a whole new discovery. Wait until they find out what color is.

4. It's nice he found himself even if late in life, many never do and live
a horrible life of self denial, persecution and suicidal thoughts. It is absolutely horrible, the mold that societies try to force people into. Yes, he seems a transvestite, but not gay. I often wish the table could be flipped so the pious and self righteous ever knowing of the world could see/feel the severe harm they work to inflict on other people.

6. I'm in a gritchy mood today but...
I have to ask. Do people actually read the ENTIRE article before responding? Of do most of you just read the cut and paste portion and respond to that? If you had read the entire article, I don't think that there would be so much anger at the author and accusations of not knowing the difference between gay, transgendered, etc. This was an all encompassing article about seniors "coming out" as gay, lesbian, bi, trans...simply coming out. Try reading that article before responding, you "may" learn something, it was actually a very good article not meant to harm or offend anyone. Remember the grand old saying "a mind is like a para-shoot, it only works if it's open".

7. with the condition of journalism today, sometimes the first sentence is the only
one that has any 'news' in it. In this case, it sounds like it didn't even have that much. Sometimes reading the whole article is just a waste of time. Sorry. But I do know the difference between gay and whatever this guy was discovering about himself.

8. I DID Read the Entire Article
And while I agree with you that it was much more inclusive than it first appeared, it was still poor judgment to give the story that headline and lead off with a story about a transgendered woman.
