Tomorrow is the Day of Silence
Been a big week for me, got tenure, mailed of redo of entry one for national boards (both today) and now day of silence tomorrow. If you have a kid at school maybe he or she is participating.

2. Off topic, but since you're familiar with such things....
.... do you have any idea why where would be not a single GLSEN/GSA chapter in all of NYC ( public school population: 1,000,000)?

GLSEN itself confirmed this to me. Incomprehensible.

Good luck with the Day of Silence. No... my school is not participating; unless another faculty member has something planned; which I doubt.

3. I find that very hard to believe
it might be that none have registered or maybe there is a New York state split with the national GLSEN.

4. I don't think there's a split.
GLSEN ( I think I was corresponding with the national version) suggested I go ahead and start the first one. Besides there are plenty of chapters in the suburbs right outside the city.

My suspicion is that the CITY discourages such organizing. I'm not sure HOW. But it's suspicious.

5. Day of Silence Is An Awful Idea.
The worst possible way to protest not being given a voice is to voluntarily give it up. What a shitty, shitty message for children of ANY orientation.
