Good god. My school brought in PFLAG to do staff training today.
Three... count'em... THREE separate sessions for about 100 people each.

This after I posted the following without authorization in March... and left it up for three months ( also a technical no-no; the boards are supposed to be changed every month):

http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_mesg&forum=221&topic_id=160055&mesg_id=160055

The admins... and almost the entire staff... ignored the board and I ignored the fact that they ignored the board. Just left it up.

Not a word was spoke between us. ( To channel Bob Dylan). Then today PFLAG shows-up.

Nice presentation; an older mom, two thirtyish guys with first person testimonials of school days at Hell-hole Highs, and what seemed to be a PFLAG administrator. They were received politely... not especially warmly but there was no hostility or overt disrespect . I asked them to return to talk to the kids in the foreseeable fututre. The PFLAG guy said yes.

Anyway... you could knock me over with a twenty pound tuna. I didn't know exactly HOW to interpret my administrators' silence. There has been no official aknowledgement of sexual minorities of any kind in that school in the last twenty-plus years.

Do I have the hot hand ....or what?

Perhaps the most important lesson to be gained from this: I did NOT ask permission; I just did it.

Gotta remember that for next time.

I *think* it's support. The "no talk" part makes me a little nervous.

If I suddenly don't post here for a long time.... you know what to do.

>>>It worked out the way it should.>>>>>

I keep feeling like I oughta keep looking over my shoulder.

Not many things really "work out the way they should."

sounds like it helped motivate somebody in authority too - kind of reassuring, eh? sometimes it feels like the whole planet is made of shitheads, but it really isn't

11. Good for you
sadly I keep getting new and more onerous restrictions upon my group of charges as time passes. I am hoping we can reverse it a bit next year (I have tenure so I can be a little more pushy). In any case, keep up the great work.
