Withers: McCain is confused about how DADT actually works
There’s nothing funny about yesterday’s Senate DADT vote, but Sen. John McCain went the petulant child route with a group of reporters. Check out this video of him as he’s questioned by The Advocate’s Kerry Eleveld and Metro Weekly’s Chris Geidner. The Arizona senator emphatically insists the military does not “go out and seek to find out if someone’s sexual orientation.” The reporters are shocked at this; when they suggest the Dixiecrat senator is mistaken he puts fingers in his ears.
“I know the military very well, and I know what’s being done,” McCain said. “And what is being done is that they are not seeking out people who are gay. And I don’t care what you say, I know it’s a fact.”
McCain’s knowledge of facts is wobbly considering he knows about the testimony of Major Mike Almy. The 13 year Air Force veteran was booted out when private emails to his partner were discovered after a routine computer check. Almy testified before the Senate Armed Services Committee this past March.
