Flare up over family makeup (follow-up to girl expelled from Xian school)
The family of a student expelled from Ontario Christian High School because her parents are lesbians protested in front of the campus Monday and said they are considering legal action.

About 20 people, including lesbian couple Tina Clark and Mitzi Gray, and two of their three daughters, waved signs from 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. challenging the school's expulsion of their 14-year-old daughter Shay Clark.

"We want to get the policy changed and bring awareness that there is a school in this community that discriminates," said Shay, who is not seeking a reversal of the decision. "The whole purpose of Christianity is to bring people into the church, not turn them away."

School officials did not respond to inquiries but released a statement saying the "family does not meet admissions criteria" because of the parents' participation in a homosexual relationship.

As much as I think this shows the absolute bigotry of the fundies, I have to wonder: so why would a pair of lesbian parents want their child exposed to the kind of bigoted crap that gets taught in these Christian "madrasas"?

1. Same thought occurred to me
It would be like Eldridge Cleaver suing the Klan for refusing to admit him.

2. Having gone to such a school.
The kid is better off, believe me. The hell the kids would put her through would have been immense. In my own school, public holiness of one's self and one's family was tied to status...although the "holiest" kids were often the biggest sluts as well (which, being a geek, I never got to experience first hand). But appearance was everything, and a lesbian parent would ensure you abuse, unless you gave up your parents to the abuse and joined in the mind control cult. At which point you would be merely pitied ("Poor little X. Such a good Christian. Too bad your mom is going to burn in hell.").

I managed to maintain a facade of bemused disdain during high school, and avoided the persecution heaped upon most of those who were less "bibleized" than others because my compatriots had an outsize fear of my temper and the extent to which I was willing to retaliate for slights. But for kids from exceptional families like this, unless their self-defense skills were unusually sharp, this school would be a hell on earth.
