Amid the ongoing public debate about whether LGBT parents are �good enough,� and assertions from our conservative opponents that children raised by lesbian and gay parents are �at risk,� another powerful study published today that should put a pall on this conversation.

1. Another important thing about a statistic like that

is that it curtails the cycle of abuse. That will bother companies like Wackenhut, no doubt, or other groups that depend on crime rates to either make money, or scare the populace.

2. Why separate out lesbian mothers from gay fathers?

It's probably gay men who need the stats on their side because lesbians can always find a sperm donor while gay men probably need to adopt.

3. The Christian right doesn't care about either statistics or child abuse

They will find any reason to hate the gays and wail on their own kids.

The demographics alone argue in favor of gay parents.

They're more likely than straight parents to be older, more affluent, and partnered, and less likely to be on welfare, on drugs, or subject to unplanned pregnancies by sheer virtue of the fact that adoption and IVF take a lot of money and a lot of planning. Not to mention the fact that drunken/unprotected/casual/teenage GAY sex NEVER leads to a baby.
