"Unauthorized reproduction bill" - affects GLBT community in IN
There is a thread in GD about this: http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=view_all&address=104x4963321

This is a disgusting piece of potential legislation in IN, folks. I'm not even from Indiana but I think that we need to work on this!!

I have emailed this to the NOW chapters in IN. Can anyone help me get this to other groups: PFLAG, NARAL, and any other group that could help pressure the IN legislature to get this bill killed?

********************************************************

Republican lawmakers are drafting new legislation that will make
marriage a requirement for motherhood in the state of Indiana,
including specific criminal penalties for unmarried women who do
become pregnant "by means other than sexual intercourse."

According to a draft of the recommended change in state law, every
woman in Indiana seeking to become a mother throu gh assisted
reproduction therapy such as in vitro fertilization, sperm donation,
and egg donation, must first file for a "petition for parentage" in
their local county probate court.

Only women who are married will be considered for the "gestational
certificate" that must be presented to any doctor who facilitates the
pregnancy. Further, the "gestational certificate" will only be given
to married couples that successfully complete the same screening
process currently required by law of adoptive parents.

As it the draft of the new law reads now, an intended parent "who
knowingly or willingly participates in an artificial reproduction
procedure" without court approval, "commits unauthorized
reproduction, a Class B misdemeanor." The criminal charges will be
the same for physicians who commit "unauthorized practice of
artificial reproduction."

2. So what, you have to bring in a video of yerself doing the deed
in order to get acquitted????...I mean, how is anyone to know HOW a person got pregnant, absent PRIVATE medical records???

This is sick, and you'd think the media would be all over it, seeing as it relates to their favorite subject, S-E-X....

5. Is there a clause in there about unauthorized fatherhood?
Cause if there isn't I am not sure this will stand up to the federal Constitution.

The sad part of all this is the motivation is RW fear and loathing of paying welfare to children and un-wed mothers.

6. They fear the GLBT community having children as well
Don't you see? This is a threat to any woman - regardless of race, color, creed or sexual orientation - who wants to have children without the benefit of a man or marriage!

We have to DO something!! This cannot stand!

like "in vitro fertilization, sperm donation,
and egg donation"

The arguments given against it still apply, but I wouldn't be surprised if it passed. The government and religion want to regulate (Stop) these industries.

11. Does that include artificial insemination?
If so, that is a HUGE issue for the GLBT community.

I'm sick of these fuckers trotting out the "gay" issues all the time to invigorate their bigoted base. It's got to stop.

How do we get the stupid motherfuckers (right-wing voting assholes) that fall for this shit to STOP voting against their best interests?

As Malloy says, "Got to stop the QUEERS!"

21. Exactly - which is why it is so dangerous
It's an affront to any woman who wants to be a mother without having to have the husband. It's just a few steps from this to having laws that mandate that if a woman is married, then she must have children.

25. Not true. A couple can get pregnant the old-fashioned way
and don't have to be married.

This law focused on methods that require doctors or some outside help. That's why it's so dangerous because they could actually succeed. If they were going after unmarried couples they might have constitutional problems.

24. yes, it is to stop lesbian insemination.
Unmarried pregnant women will not be charged with 'unauthorized gestation' if they conceive through intercourse. They will merely not be permitted to be artificially inseminated. However, if a woman is pregnant through means OTHER than intercourse (read turkeybaster) she will be charged with a crime.

Class B misdemeanor? WTF does that mean?

So what do these wonderful "Christians" want an "unlawful" mother to do? ABORT the baby? Doesn't that go against everything they supposedly stand for?!

Motherfuckers!!!! I hate these right-wing "Christian" assholes so much! :nuke:

These types of people scare me. They are talking about making it a misdemeanor if women break this law!

We have to stop this - NOW. Right here, right now.

There is a line that they have crossed, dwickham, and we can't stand silent. These folks are bigots - both against gays and against anyone who isn't just like they are.

I am sending this to everyone I can think of but I'd love to have some help.

once people turn off their brains, replace it with faith-based initiative from a bible beating bastard preacher, I do not believe that they have a mind of their own anymore.
ergo, there is nothing to lose.

29. Another failed totalitarian State-
southern Indiana is really more like the southern red states than not.

But this piece of hate filled, bigoted, human rights violation masquerading as a piece of legislation is an abomination.

Repug Patricia L. Miller, nurse, and right wingnut politician is behind this ugly thing. She has been hand picked by former shrub buddy mybitchmitch daniels.
