DES MOINES - The Iowa House is set to debate House Joint Resolution 6 at 11 a.m. this morning ...

While the outcome in the House is not in doubt - House Republicans, who hold a 60-40 majority, have made it clear its passage is a priority, prospects for passage in the Senate are not as optimistic.

Senate Majority Leader Mike Gronstal, D-Council Bluffs, has pledged not to bring it up for consideration ...

1. This is another "busy time" issue led by Repugs...like Boehner redefining rape.
WHY are these people so obsessed with sex/body parts?

2. Former Republican senator: This debate devalues lives
7:42 PM, Jan 31, 2011 | by Jason Clayworth |

... During my tenure in the Iowa Senate, I voted for an amendment similar to the one contemplated tonight and was lead sponsor for a similar Constitutional amendment just a few short years ago.

But I am here tonight to tell you that I have changed my position on this issue, and to urge a “no” vote on House Joint Resolution 6 and ask that this assembly continue to allow same-sex couples the ability to be joined in civil marriage ...

The resolution before you places pro-active, legislative language in our Constitution meant to limit the ability of a select group of citizens to be civilly joined in marriage ...

Let me also say that the tenor of the debate has become such that it does not serve the people of Iowa well and is not in keeping with an Iowa culture that is known nationwide for displaying both respect and generosity of spirit ...

3. Nice to See...
that someone changed his opinion on the subject. I wonder if it will hold much water with all the rigt wing haters out there in Iowa. I am really angry at this stuff because our ability to marry does NOT affect them, other than to remove another way for them to legally discriminate against us.
