Chilling New Bill In Iowa--They Want to Stop Any Same-Sex Marriages Being Performend Pending Vote
This is worrying, to say the least:

First anti-equality forces in the Iowa House introduced a resolution calling for a general vote on ending any recognition for gay and lesbian families: No marriage, no domestic partnerships, no civil unions.

But they're setting a chilling precedent with House File 330, the Immediate Marriage Ban: Now they've proposed putting a stop to gay and lesbian weddings until the general public can vote on the freedom to marry.

Iowans have said over and over they want the legislature to concentrate on jobs and the economy, not waste our precious time and money on issues that further divide us instead of make us stronger

1. In a country that brags about freedom to others, it has always amazed me how
in this country freedom for equality has always been a constant battle. It crosses all walks of life, fighting for freedom and equality. The US needs to hold a mirror up and see how hypocritical many are in the US.

2. I'm sure this won't pass, and if it does, it can't go into effect...
law is pretty clear that the supreme court ruling stands unless a law to challenge/repeal it passes two years in a row.

4. Dems will stop it in the Senate, fortunately
Dems still control the Senate, and they keep emphasizing that the state is not in the business of taking people's civil rights away.

The House is full of lunatic teabaggers.

5. Unless they ban all marriages until then I don't see how that's constitutional
No way is that constitutional, not unless stop everyone from getting married.

Plus the idiots will hurt their economy if they pass that bill. Gay marriages cause people to spend more in Iowa then they would otherwise, it creates some jobs, and stimulates the economy.

6. It's not. Equal protection clause and seperation of powers.
The legislature is trying to act like it's a court, and can "stay" a legal activity pending something else. That's not the way legislation works.

7. Vote on what?
The ruling from the Iowa Supreme Court was pretty clear. Same sex marriage is constitutionally protected by the Iowa Constitution. The only vote that can occur to ban same sex marriage would be to amend the state Constitution. Banning same sex marriage until a vote is taken to ban same sex marriage doesn't make sense.

There I go again. Using logic. I keep forgetting that arguing with hate mongers requires lowering my IQ to that of a toaster oven.
