Seattle Mariners to join 'It Gets Better' campaign for gay youth

Inspired by the San Francisco Giants' decision to film an advocacy video encouraging gay youth against suicide, the Seattle Mariners will produce a video for the 'It Gets Better Project.'

The Giants' video was a first for a major pro sports franchise, following the lead of high-profile companies including Facebook and Pixar.

Spurred by a Change.org petition started by a member of the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus, the 58-second clip has logged more than 123,000 YouTube hits since it was released June 1.

After Sean Chapin's successful Giants petition, dozens of petitions for other pro teams gained popularity on Change.org, including those for the Boston Red Sox and Chicago Cubs, who have since agreed to the project.

I'm not trying to make light, if I'm going to root for losers, at least I'm rooting for losers with a soul. And watching professional athletes speak out against homophobia and hate is extremely heartening.
