Conservative Milwaukee Blogger gets it on gay rights, thanks to couple next door.
TaxToTheMax blogs frequently on the Milwaukee Journal/Sentinal site. Few of his many posts flip my flapjacks. Today he surprised me:

Both me and my wife are conservatives and we live next door to a lesbian couple who are retired. Although we have different political views we enjoy spending time together talking about everything that is not politics. They are the sweatest couple I've ever met and so it's hard for us to say they shouldn't have the right to marry, so I won't. It's one thing to make comments about people that you don't know but when you get to know someone who is gay, it's a different story. I feel strongly that I can be a conservative and still support some liberal issues like gay marriage. Maybe I'm just a romantic but when two people love each other I've learned through these two great ladies that it doesn't matter what sex you are.

3. i don't think gay marriage is a liberal issue, it's a human righs issue
Some things have no place in politics. This is about fundamental human rights, pure and simple.

4. Too bad for the country that the Republicans made it a political issue,
used it as a tool to get bushco installed in power, and now that there is no longer any use for it as a wedge issue, they're dropping it and will probably end up taking credit for gay rights.

Meanwhile the Democrats sit around sucking their thumbs.

5. A true Republican would support gay marriage. The gov't shouldnt be
in private lives. It is just he crazy social nutjobs who have taken over their party in the last 30 years who care.

8. K&R for another small step forward.
I'm guessing there've been even more such conversions in places where same-sex couples can marry or even enter a civil union. People who know them will notice that the sky hasn't fallen in and that heterosexual marriages aren't threatened.

9. Few prejudices can withstand actually meeting those at whom they're directed.
