Gay, lesbian households up 57 percent in Alaska

JUNEAU, Alaska — The number of gay and lesbian households in Alaska grew by about 57 percent over the last decade.

Newly released findings from the 2010 U.S. Census show 1,851 gay and lesbian households in Alaska. That compares to 1,180 in 2000.

There were 258,058 total households in the state and growth among the various household types.

The number of unmarried-partner, male and female households grew by about 44 percent, rising from 15,388 to 22,087 last year.

1. I wonder how much of the increase is due to more people coming out of the closet rather
than real growth in absolute terms. ?
