No parole for ‘Woodlands 10’ killer in ‘91 gay bashing

The last imprisoned member of “The Woodlands Ten” will stay in prison at least one more year for the 1991 murder of a gay Houston banker.

The Texas Pardons and Parole Board withdrew parole Tuesday for Jon Buice, incarcerated for the 1991 murder of Paul Broussard, a 27-year-old gay Houston banker. Buice, a former McCullough High School student, was granted parole July 1 after serving 19 years of a 45-year sentence.

“Much additional information” received by the Amarillo parole panel prompted the decision, stated Rissie Owens, presiding officer of the Texas Board of Pardons and Parole, in a press release, including new information not previously considered by the board.

Originally approved for release no earlier than Oct. 1, Buice will be up for review again in August 2012.
