Indiana GOP State Rep exposed for sex with a male prostitute.
Email rendezvous entangles state Rep. Phillip Hinkle
Lawmaker calls encounter set up with young man on Craigslist a 'shakedown'

From today's Star:

Emails shared with The Indianapolis Star suggest that state Rep. Phillip Hinkle -- responding to a local posting on Craigslist -- offered a young man $80 plus tip to spend time with him Saturday night at the JW Marriott hotel.

The emails, sent from Hinkle's publicly listed personal address, ask the young man for "a couple hours of your time tonight" and offer him cash up front, with a tip of up to $50 or $60 "for a really good time." (rest of article at link.)

Why knew? The best way to get a response from your local Republican lawmaker...is to post a gay prostitution ad on craigslist.org.

1. He co-sponsored the "In God We Trust" license plates. Why am I not surprised?
It's always these idiot closet cases who are the biggest religion in government pushers.

2. Hinkle sponsored an anti gay marriage bill too.

From the article it looks like his whole family knew he was gay and was willing to pay $10,000 in hush money to keep
the story from getting out ..... why is it the more somebody complains about "teh gays" the more likely it is they are
closet cases?

4. They're too stupid to come out of their closet
It doesn't surprise me that they know jack squat about the Internet.

glad that the guy who was behind such vile views on GLBT people in their state has been exposed for hypocrisy, and I'm glad the young man and his sister were pissed off when they found out who he was and his views.

6. I have mixed feelings about this.
On the hand I am glad he has been exposed but on the other hand given the era he grew up in & his age now I understand him being closeted.

Yes there are Gay Republicans. Yes I believe that people like this should be outed if they vote in a negative way for GLBT rights. Unfortunately it is going to take time for the closet to be just a memory for The GLBT community.

8. That's like saying you have mixed feelings for racists, sexists, nazis, etc.

White men (especially in the South) were taught woman stayed in back of the them, and non-whites below him. Isn't giving up the closet much easier than giving up status as top dog in the social order?

I know several midwestern people older than this guy (gay and straight) who don't have a problem with gays. He is not showing remorse for his actions, but choosing to attack a man he tried to use. Unfortunately, it's the stubborn ones who refuse to face facts. So exposing their hypocrisy and lies, is one good way to show voters the folly of electing anti-gay politicians.

10. You're opinion is about 20 years too late.
You POV might have been valid for somebody from the Jesse Helms generation...but this guy is from Baby Boomer generation.

Hinkle is about Bill Clinton's age.

Wake up. It's 2011.

This guy has spent his entire political career fighting to push gays in the closet. I have no mixed feelings for such an evil man.

7. The one question I was going to ask has already been answered.
This man not only voted for, but CO-Authored anti-gay, homophobic, anti civil rights legislation.

This man deserves to have himself outed and his career in the toilette.

12. The young man is a hero. He does a better job than the media of exposing bigots.
Can't believe how the gay haters are attacking the young man. But the fact is, he is a hero. Many would have taken the $10,000 and shut up. He decided getting the truth out was more important. He should be given a scholarship to any school...especially for journalism. We could use him.
