Boy Scouts boot lesbian mom (can't get to heaven, needs a savior)
Boy Scouts Boot Lesbian Mom

The Boy Scouts have booted Virginia mom Denise Steele from her position as den mother after the Christian sponsors of her son's troop discovered that Steele has been partnered with another woman for 19 years.

Phil Holliday, the executive pastor at Christian Fellowship Church and Esther Schaeffer, the charter organization representative, say they are simply following the rules. When a chartered partner agrees to sponsor a scouting unit, an annual charter agreement is signed, they explained. In the contract, they agree to provide a place for a meeting, select volunteer leaders and follow the policies and guidelines established by the Boy Scouts of America. “We are simply doing what we agreed to do in our charter,” Schaeffer said.

The scouting official who turned Steele in sent an email to one of her friends: "As her friend, this may be an opportunity for you to share with her about Christ’s love and the need to believe that as sinners we cannot get to heaven on our own and that we need a savior."

1. It used to break my heart a little, saying NO to the Boy Scouts begging for money
Not so much any more. They have not changed their bigoted policies one iota.

Scout-like Organizations

There are organizations that don't call themselves Scouts, but might be described as "Scout-like". And there are some groups that call themselves Scouts, but are very different from traditional Scouting. There is no clear line of distinction between "true" Scouting and "Scout-like" programs, nor is there any worldwide agreement on what is "true" Scouting. Here are some guidelines that I use to help determine if an organization is "Scout-like" (and please email me if you can improve on these guidelines, or if you can offer additional information about any of the organizations listed below):

Most avoid using the terms "Scout" or "Scouting".
Most do not particularly acknowledge Baden-Powell as the ultimate founder of their program (and a couple pre-date Scouting).
Most deliberately pattern their programs after traditional Scouting (often including not only an outdoor program, but advancement, merit badges, ranks, and a Scout-like uniform), but usually consider themselves to be an alternative to traditional Scouting.

Many of these organizations are US-based, although some have branches around the world. Many are also church-centered Christian evangelizing groups, some belonging to specific denominations, and others available to any "bible-believing, evangelical Christian" church that wants to use the program.

7. Nothing makes me feel better than turning Boy Scouts
away from my door when they ask for money. It's a hateful little Christian army.

9. When did this Christian shit get injected into Scout practice? It wasn't there when I was young.
It may have been there behind the scenes, but it certainly didn't exist in the parts that kids participated in.

10. This just breaks my heart
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 09:33 AM by William769
I was a Cub Scout then a Webelo then a Boy Scout, these were some of the best times of my life. For an organization that helped me so much as a child to be turned into the hate filled organization I consider it now, just makes me want to  .

ON EDIT: Recommended.

11. Sounds like these scouting officials...
are trying their best to be shining examples of bigotry; golly, that sure sounds like a great way to teach young men to be good citizens.

12. I'm conflicted...
Edited on Fri Aug-26-11 06:08 PM by NeoGreen
... I was a Scout before the 1984 take over by the LDS and the God crazies, and currently I am active with my son in our local Troop.

The current Scout doctrine states you cannot become a good citizen/person without a belief in God. I strongly beg to differ, but keep my thoughts to myself. I'm quietly planting ideas in the heads of other parents in my group; such as when the Cub leader says "there are no Atheists in Scouts", I make a quite statement to the effect that we're all atheists to other religion's God(s) (what I don't say is that I'm the same as you +1).

My ideological self says that I am trying to do the good thing and change the bad attributes from within, but the practical self says "dude you got no chance".

Right now, I'm planning on joining the Unitarian Universalist Church of the Larger Fellowship, so I can guide my son through a "religious" program and so he can get his Scout approved Religious Medal/Badge, to provide cover for any zealots that may show up in our future when he goes for his Eagle. UU's had some disagreements with Scouts a few years ago, but they seem to have worked it out, which is good for me (I like UU philosophy).

Scouts can be a good thing, if you don't let the crazies drag you down (or find out the truth).

(edited for spelling)

13. It's useless if you have to hide who you are...
If you cannot be accepted it's like being in the closet. Again. Thanks but no thanks.

14. I understand but ultimately...
... I'm not doing this for me, but for my son and he has not made up his mind (he is only 12).

I wouldn't want him to forgo the good times to be had, because his old man is unyielding.
