A segment on The Last Word tonight had me in tears tonight...
The segment was about GLBT couples in NC trying to obtain marriage licenses. One couple that I remember had been married in MA and were trying to have their marriage acknowledged in NC. More than one couple had children and stated that they needed to protect their children. I was kinda choking up then.

Then there was a lesbian couple and this isn't exact, but the woman who was addressing the clerk said something like, 'we've been together for 25 years, we're in our mid - 60's, will there even be a time in our lifetimes when we won't be treated as second class citizens'. That's when the waterworks started for me.

I don't have a link to the segment of the show, but hopefully it will be available, but this is the link given to the courageous folks in NC http://southernequality.org/2011/10/breaking-we-do-campaign-intensifies-tactics-to-resist-unjust-laws/

The clerks seemed sympathetic while they had to deny their requests, and it was just damned sad.

3. Pride is being celebrated in W-S today
for the first time in a decade. I guess adversity makes us stronger and willing to pull together.

I and my beloved would love to go but he just had major surgery a couple of weeks ago. But next year during political season, betcherbunz we'll be out there.

4. Well wishes for a speedy recovery for your beloved!

I don't know how the stupid amendment to TN's state constitution can be overturned. All that I've known for many years is that second tiered citizenship is wrong. The onslaught of the religious crazies probably pulls most of us together.

I'm straight, BTW, and I ran into someone who ran for congress here, and his wife, and we have the awful David Fowler to deal with here. Anyway, Fowler had advocated recently for gays to be exempted from health care coverage, and I mentioned to the wife that I'd seen a LTTE in the local paper where she'd taken a swipe at Fowler.

I also mentioned that perhaps a bunch of us should get together and sign petitions and push for an amendment to the state constitution that the likes of Fowler shouldn't be allowed to marry.

At first she laughed, as I was being a smartass when I said it, then she stated, "Well that would get the message across about discrimination and it would leave a mark".

This two tiered citizenship must end, and the sooner the better.
