New Push To End Florida Gay Adoption Ban
Edited on Mon Nov-07-05 09:13 AM by William769
(Orlando, Florida) There are more than 1,000 children in Florida in need of adoptive parents but state law continues to forbid those children from going to the homes of gays or lesbians.

Florida's ban on gay adoption, described as the most punitive adoption law in the country, has been defended by Gov. Jeb Bush and the leadership in both the House and Senate. Last year the full United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit upheld the ban, and the US Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal. (story)

Over the weekend members of an LGBT group fighting the law met to plan strategy for supporting a bill that would allow state judges allow gays and lesbians to adopt children on a case-by-case basis.

The bill has been introduced in the Florida House and Senate but most observers give it little chance of passing. A similar measure failed in the Legislature last year.

You know it's funny they are so anti abortion but when it comes time to take care of these kids where are they?

1. This is disgraceful. I know a gay couple, not rich mind you, that
has adopted the most uwanted, messed up ten year old boy who's deceased mom was a crackhead. The kid has cokebottle glasses, is on tons of meds and is in special ed. How can you put the kabash on someone giving unconditional love to a needy unwanted kid like this? Fuck them. Sue them. Can't they be sued?

2. I just don't understand why the roadblocks
this is something whose time has come and it is going to happen. Period. Sooner or later. They need to get out of the way.

3. ".....where are they?" Maybe they are thinking that the kids may not
have a mommy but at least they don't have TWO mommies. How the fuck could anyone think that having TWO mommies is a BAD thing, anyway? Particularly compared to having NO mommy? Damn idiots.

4. better to have an unwanted child
that languishes in child welfare services, leads a life not truly loved the way only ''parents'' can love a child than to have gay parents or parent?

alice, we've gone through the looking glass and down the rabbit hole.
