N.C. Baptists Might Boot Churches That Support Gays
WENDELL, N.C. -- A Wake County pastor is spearheading an effort to kick what he calls "gay-friendly" churches out of the North Carolina Baptist Convention.

"We are holding on to gospel of the Lord and to the teachings of the word of God," said Bill Sanderson, pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church, in Wendell, and leader of a conservative faction within the Baptist Convention. "We must set a boundary on issues that say, 'We go this far and no further.'"

Sanderson's amendment, which will be voted on when the convention meets next week in Winston-Salem, would tighten the requirements for church membership to the state convention by banning churches that endorse homosexual behavior, ordain openly gay clergy, perform gay marriages or accept openly gay members.

Current policy within the convention already addresses some of the homosexuality issues. Pullen Memorial Baptist Church, in Raleigh, was kicked out of the state convention more than a decade ago, for example, after blessing a union between two homosexual men.

"We go this far and no further." ... Sounds like it's more appropriate if he would say, "We stick our heads up our asses this far and can't go any farther."

Seriously, isn't it about time we just started declaring cults like this as hate groups like the KKK?

2. I'm certain
that Jesus would boot out everyone, since his teachings are based on hate. :sarcasm: I think if I belonged to a gay friendly church I wouldn't want to have the church belong to any group of hate mongers.

3. Of course, they're going to be consistent and...
Kick out members who get divorced since that is considered the same as adultery/fornication except in rare cases in the Bible.

No? Why, I'm shocked, shocked to find gambling is going on in Casablanca... I mean that there's hypocrisy in reich-wing churches!

4. They need to kick out the churches that have bingo
and bless second marriages as well. And the churches who eat shellfish at the local Red Lobster.

This IS a hate group. And its time we called them a cult.
