Roberts First LGBT Case 'Defacto Victory' At Supreme Court
(Washington) In the first LGBT case to reach the US Supreme Court under Chief Justice John Roberts the court has let stand a ruling upholding the rights of transsexuals.

The court Monday refused to consider shielding employers from discrimination lawsuits by transsexuals. The court's refusal to intervene leaves in place a victory for transgendered Cincinnati Officer Philecia Barnes.

A federal appeals court upheld a jury's finding that Barnes was a victim of discrimination, under a federal civil rights law. The city had been ordered to pay the officer $320,000, and pay another $550,000 in attorney fees.

In 1999, Barnes, a 24-year veteran of the Cincinnati police force, dressed as a man at work but a woman during off-hours as she transitioned. At times, Barnes wore makeup to work and had manicured nails.

2. I had to read this three times to be sure I was reading it right.....
and then I had to read it out loud to my lover while banging on the table here and there to emphasize my happiness.

(hugs for Philecia) Just like that, girl. Swing hard.

I'm kind of boggled they ruled this way......and much too suspicious to think it means anything other than the good guys won this one skirmish. But I'll take good news any way I can get it.

3. Finally, a gay Republican who doesn't act against his own best interests.
Will it turn out that Roberts is the "Stevens" of Chimpy's appointments?

5. I'm...still waiting to be convinced.
If I'm not mistaken, this Court will hear a challenge to "Don't Ask Don't Tell" in its term. We'll see.

Today was a good first step...but I'll hold off my optomism for now.
