Bestselling author Malcolm Gladwell to address the 'tipping
point' of marriage equality at Creating Change, the nation's
premier lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender organizing
conference
Gladwell, author of The Tipping Point: How Little Things Can
Make a Big Difference, will speak at the Oakland-based
conference on Nov. 9
What:
Malcolm Gladwell, bestselling author of The Tipping Point: How
Little Things Can Make a Big Difference, will present at the
18th Annual Creating Change, the country's premier lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender rights organizing conference.
Who: Gladwell, a staff writer for The New Yorker magazine since
1996, and a former reporter for The Washington Post, is also the
author of bestselling Blink: The Power of Thinking Without
Thinking.
The National Gay and Lesbian Task Force organizes the
conference, which is attended by more than 2,500 activists and
community leaders from across the country.
When: 3PM on November 9, 2005
Free and open to the public.
Where: Oakland Marriott City Center
1001 Broadway
Oakland, California
Why: Same-sex marriage is a hot topic in America. Supporters and
opponents are passionately organizing around the issue. In The
Tipping Point, Gladwell proposes that, when small numbers of
people start behaving differently, the behavior can ripple
outward until a critical mass or "tipping point" is reached,
thereby changing the world or environment directly affected by
the behavior. In his Creating Change session, Gladwell will use
his theories in addressing the marriage equality issue and how
to identify the proper individuals and actions in order to reach
the 'tipping point' and make marriage equality a reality.
There will be several opportunities at the conference throughout
the week for interviews with key leaders and activists of the
lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender rights movement. To
arrange interviews, contact Roberta Sklar at 917.704.6358.

Founded in 1973, the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force
Foundation (the Task Force) was the first national lesbian, gay,
bisexual and transgender (LGBT) civil rights and advocacy
organization and remains the movement's leading voice for
freedom, justice and equality. We work to build the grassroots
political strength of our community by training state and local
activists and leaders, working to strengthen the infrastructure
of state and local allies, and organizing broad-based campaigns
to build public support for complete equality for LGBT people.
Our Policy Institute, the community's premier think tank,
provides research and policy analysis to support the struggle
for complete equality. As part of a broader social justice
movement, we work to create a world that respects and makes
visible the diversity of human expression and identity where all
people may fully participate in society. Headquartered in
Washington, D.C., we also have offices in New York City, Los
Angeles, Cambridge, Mass., and Miami. The Task Force is a
501(c)(3) corporation incorporated in Washington, D.C.
