NC Baptists To Expel 'Gay Friendly' Churches
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/11/111605baptists.htm

The Baptist State Convention of North Carolina has taken a formal stand on gays in a vote that asked its board to define when a member church is "in friendly cooperation" with the convention.

At the convention's 175th annual meeting, convention delegates - also called messengers - voted Tuesday to ask their board of directors what constitutes a church "in friendly cooperation with the convention and sympathetic to its purposes and work."

The motion was made by Bill Sanderson, pastor of Hephzibah Baptist Church in Wendell, who said that such a policy "must deal clearly with "homosexual behavior" and include that a church that "knowingly affirms, approves or endorses homosexual behavior" is a church not in friendly cooperation with the convention."

1. Another example of
Christ's love in our great state....:eyes:

Sometimes I wonder why I'm still living here...although the fundies seem to be everywhere these days so I guess it doesn't really matter where you live anymore. Sigh.

4. there are enclaves of progressives even in Fundy Land
Eureka Springs AR has a Sufi Center, for example, plus a Unitarian Church. And I know plenty of locals who practice Native American religion among other faiths....

6. I (heart) Eureka Springs!
It's been several years since I was there, but it's such a fascinating (and progressive place!) among the red of the rest of the state!

The downtown area is beautiful with many art galleries and an ecletic mix of shops ... but it's such a contrast to all the "craft shops" selling corncob pipes, lawn "mooners," and other "hillbilly" items on the roads leading into town. There was even at one time a music theater (or "opry," as such places get called) featuring none other than has-been beauty pageant runner-up, orange juice shill and celebrity homophobe Anita Bryant.

Finding Eureka Springs in a state like Arkansas is like finding Oz in a Kansas corn field!

2. buh bye, convention
If I were a deacon on a gay friendly church, I wouldn't want to be a part of this convention to begin with!

5. That's the great thing
about Baptists, the individuals can change churches, the churches can join or leave a state convention or a denominational convention. They can join another convention, or none at all. They can split, and merge, all freely, without the lawyers getting involved with who owns the property. The property is owned by the local church.

Sure, they often come to incorrect positions. They split and form a church that agrees with them. Freedom, it's a glorious thing, even when people use their freedom to be wrong.

3. Sure hope they realize that the bigotted faction they are catering
to are most traditionally the trailer park trash here in the south, without any hope of replacing the financial support of the ones they are getting ready to boot out.

Halle-fucking-lujah!

Can they still file bankruptcy under the new laws?

7. But I'm sure adulterers, pedophiles and spouse abusers
will still be welcomed with open arms.

8. Typical.
I wouldn't expect anything better in NC. I hate this state with a passion. Money. I need enough money to leave this wretched place forever . If I ever get to move, I never want to come back.
