Anglican Bishops Claim They Never Signed Anti-Gay Letter
http://www.365gay.com/Newscon05/11/111805anglican.htm

At least two Anglican Primates whose names appear on a letter expressing a lack of confidence in the leadership of the Archbishop of Canterbury and demanding that he become more forceful in denouncing the North American churches for being pro-gay say they never signed the document.

The Bishop of Jerusalem and the Middle East and the Bishop of the Southern Horn are demanding their names be removed from the document.

Several other bishops also have indicated they never gave permission for their names to be used.

The letter to Archbishop Rowan Williams, the titular leader of the world's Anglicans, was released Thursday at the Church's General Synod, meeting in London. (story)

1. Sadly, I don't think so
In my town the six Episcopal churches are decimated by this schism. There are two remnant parishes left (so small they might not survive) and one full parish. Everybody else has gone to the Anglican Communion.

I think what happened is these particular Bishops actually did NOT sign their name but they were included because they might have taken part in discussions or something.

In this area, however, the schism is not just over the gay issue, it is also about interpretation of other scripture, particularly the virgin birth and resurrection.

3. more than anything it's about the ordination of women.
the anglican/episcopal church has been extraordinarily open minded about women priests and this one issue more than just about any other has driven the proponents of the old parayer book nuts -- especially those in africa and other geographically conservative areas.

i have a friend from lesuthu who came here to berkely to get her masters of divinity and to return home to become a priest -- mind you she had spent years as an anglican nun, and the diocese in lesuthu helped pay for her education.

she gets home and they won't ordain her -- and she has been treated very badly by both her fellow priests and nuns for seeking ordination.

just an anecdotal story -- conservatives here hunt down ordinations of women bishops and priests and show up and cause a stir.

there's no healing this schism because rational people aren't going to backwards -- though the issue of robinson may not yet be over.

2. Isn't there something in the Bible about
"Thou shalt not bear false witness . . ."?

Maybe they should take up the issue with a certain unemployed judge, what's his name, ROY MOORE????????
